50. Embroidered Shoes
After finding the other person's username, Lu Lin directly sent a friend request.
Chi You accepted it very quickly.
Looking at his shiny profile frame, Chi You couldn't help asking, "Where did you get that frame?"
It was sparkly and surprisingly quite good-looking.
"Given at the start of the game," Lu Lin didn't hide it, saying with a cheeky smile, "I heard this is a hidden edition, and only the extremely lucky can get it."
At this, he raised his chin slightly and said with a smug look, "You can worship me, I'm the luckiest of all."
Seeing his smug expression, Chi You raised a hand and gave him a push.
"You really are," Chi You chuckled softly, "you never change that glib tongue of yours."
The playful bickering between the two left Hua Xiaoman standing nearby with a face full of confusion.
She raised a hand to wipe the rainwater off her face, then asked, "You two know each other?"
"Of course, she's my high school classmate," Lu Lin said, resting an arm on Chi You's shoulder with a roguish smile on his face.
Seeing him act like this, why did Hua Xiaoman suddenly feel her hands itching?
He was far too punchable.
"Your high school classmate is here too?" Jiang Pan's voice rang out from behind at that moment. He was standing outside the corridor, holding an oiled paper umbrella in one hand and lunch boxes in the other.
Rainwater had soaked his shoulders, leaving a large, wet patch.
Even the tips of his hair were damp with water.
"Why are you only just getting back?" Chi You looked at him and asked with a frown.
"Do you have any idea what a good show you missed?"
Jiang Pan, however, didn't care in the least. He put the umbrella aside, lifted the lunch boxes in his hand, and smiled, "I went to buy food, didn't I? If we didn't go, we'd be going to bed hungry tonight."
Lu Lin cast a glance at this man; the man had simply walked away and ignored the discovery of a corpse.
"Do you two know each other?" Lu Lin found a chair to sit on, crossing his legs and looking entirely unbothered.
This made the other three of them look rather disheveled by comparison.
Chi You took the lunch box, pulled out her own portion, found a spot, sat down, and began to eat.
She was genuinely starving and couldn't be bothered with anything else now.
Looking at the female corpse covered from head to toe in yellow Taoist talismans, Jiang Pan couldn't help asking, "Was it really necessary to paste her up like this?"
"If we hadn't pasted them, the village chief and the others would have taken her away," Chi You replied.
"I have a feeling that if those people took her away, this young girl's body wouldn't even make it back home."
Hearing this, Jiang Pan raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes falling upon the female corpse dressed in a red bridal gown.
Two yellow talismans were pasted on her forehead, plastered directly onto her face because they had been soaked by the rain. More yellow talismans covered her chest, arms, thighs, calves, and neck.
She lay there quietly, eyes tightly closed, dressed in the red bridal gown a bride should wear when leaving for her wedding.
"We have two tasks. Although I don't know which brides we need to take out of the village or whose souls we need to help attain release..."
"This sister right here absolutely cannot be allowed to be taken away by those paper figures," Chi You said, lowering her head to take a sip of chicken soup.
The chicken soup was rich, vibrant in color, and smelled exceptionally fragrant.
"Where did you buy this takeout?"
"Bought it from Granny Wu at the head of the village," Jiang Pan replied.
The two of them chatted away and ate on their own, completely ignoring the other two people present.
Hua Xiaoman smelled the aroma lingering in the air and couldn't help swallowing hard.
Her stomach was rumbling too.
But nobody had bought her any food, so she could only use contribution points to exchange for a cup of instant noodles to eat there.
The four of them stayed in the main hall for a while, making sure the yellow talismans on the female corpse wouldn't fall off before returning to their respective rooms.
Late at night, Chi You was fast asleep on the wooden bed.
The sound of footsteps echoed near her ears, disturbing her sleep so badly that her eyebrows furrowed slightly.
She muttered under her breath, "Cut it out."
Yet she had no idea that a pair of red embroidered shoes was currently standing quietly right beside the bed.
