9. The First Wet Nurse
As the baby prepared to bite, the man beside them kicked the infant flying away.
“What are you waiting for? Run!” the girl shouted urgently.
But the only staircase was ahead, and if they wanted to escape downstairs, they had to break through the crowd.
There were too many babies, their teeth sharp and speed swift—they simply couldn’t kill them all.
Jiang Pan watched as more babies crawled out of the room continuously. She pulled out her phone and exclaimed in awe, then started filming immediately.
“This is pretty intense.”
Unlike her composure, Ji Chao was falling apart.
He had been in this scenario for a long time but had never witnessed such chaos.
“Come on, think of a way! Are you all going to die here?” Ji Chao grew desperate. Seeing Jiang Pan leisurely taking photos beside him made him anxiously tug at his hair.
A bunch of lunatics!
No plan, just rushing in blindly, and now facing disaster, they’re still busy snapping pictures!
Meanwhile, Chi You swung the iron rod in her hands, searching for the right way to attack.
She had never fought like this before; it was something she’d only seen in movies.
Looks like she was destined never to have a date with her idol.
Seeing that none of them showed any sign of panic, Ji Chao’s frustration deepened.
Each one of them was crazy.
“Brother, death is inevitable—whether sooner or later makes no difference,” Jiang Pan advised calmly, trying to ease the tension.
Chi You nodded in agreement: “Right.”
Ha, why don’t you two die first then?
The babies surged forward like a tide. When they approached Chi You, she struck their heads fiercely with the iron rod.
She swung with great force, and the impact splattered brains.
A pungent stench of rotting corpses filled the air instantly. The smell was so strong that Chi You, closest to it, couldn’t help but gag, “Ugh—”
Yet her hands didn’t stop; with every strike, she smashed another baby that dared come near.
While they struggled to resist, An He emerged slowly from the stairwell.
She had transformed into a monstrous form, her gaze fixed unblinkingly on the group.
Her swollen belly emitted the piercing cries of a baby.
So the endlessly crying infant was inside her womb!
At her appearance, all the babies crawled toward her.
Each one clung to her feet, their mouths making “ah ah ah” sounds.
---
“The heavyweight has arrived.”
“Everyone, get ready.”
Hua Xiaoman, a newcomer to the scenario, called out. Before entering, she had done some research.
Having participated many times, earning richer rewards, she knew more about the scenario than most.
The woman before them was the Original Caregiver—the first of her kind. No one knew how she disguised herself to blend in as a participant.
Feigning kindness and harmlessness, she deceived each participant to become nourishment for the embryos growing inside her.
An He bent down, picking up a baby, patting its back repeatedly while her fierce eyes remained fixed on Chi You.
Her look was so ferocious it seemed as if she wanted to devour her.
“Babies are so adorable. Why would you want to kill them?”
“Babies are the most precious little angels in the world.”
The Original Caregiver harbored a deep obsession with children. No one knew what had driven her to this state.
“Chi You, you killed such adorable babies—doesn’t your conscience hurt?”
Chi You, called out, replied in confusion, “Why would my conscience hurt?”
“Does a monster deserve my pity?”
Hearing her children called monsters, An He’s expression grew even more sinister.
She seemed angrier than ever.
Yet Chi You acted as if she hadn’t noticed and continued, “Only you see these monsters as babies. Have you ever seen a baby like this?”
“Snarling, with steel-hard teeth—if they bite you, won’t you die here?”
She then swung the iron rod directly at a baby near An He, sending it flying.
“You—” An He, witnessing this, exploded with rage, losing her human form and turning into a monster. “Damn you!”
Her voice changed with her transformation.
The four nearby watched Chi You with mixed feelings: disbelief, admiration, and frustration.
“What are you doing, provoking her!” Ji Chao was about to lose his mind. Why wouldn’t this woman follow the usual rules?
“Now that she’s furious, we’re the ones who’ll die.”
Jiang Pan, however, felt the opposite, her eyes full of admiration: “Great! I thought you were just some quiet girl who only studied, never dared to refuse or argue, silently enduring insults.”
“Heh...” Chi You smiled; it was a smile born of insecurity.
An He charged forward, claws ready to strike Chi You.
Chi You scrambled, raising her steel rod to defend, but she was weak. The claw swiped her weapon away.
---
Without her weapon, Chi You hurriedly ran backward.
An He gave chase, moving on all fours, claws aimed for Chi You’s head as she closed in.
Before she could strike, Jiang Pan fired a bullet that hit An He’s arm, causing her to halt mid-swing in pain.
Seizing the moment, Chi You flung open a nearby locked door and dashed inside.
She slammed and locked the door in one swift motion.
“Ah, only hit the arm,” Jiang Pan remarked, “I thought it’d be a headshot.”
Ji Chao picked up the steel rod that had been knocked away. Hearing Jiang Pan’s casual tone, he flared up. “Can you be serious for once?”
Jiang Pan looked puzzled. “I’ve been serious all along.”
“Heh...” No one believed that.
Inside the room, Chi You lay on the floor, gasping for breath, nearly losing her chance with her idol.
Knocks came from outside the door; An He was trying to break in.
For now, she was safe.
After catching her breath, Chi You got up and searched the room.
She had expected to find nothing useful against An He, but in the kitchen, she spotted a large canister of gasoline.
The scenario’s items truly refreshed randomly.
She quickly rummaged through the medicine cabinet and found some special-effect drugs.
Drinking them brought immediate results.
She pocketed two boxes, took down the gasoline from the stove, and found a lighter in the room.
No one could stop her from going back to meet her idol.
Outside, An He clawed at the door, the scraping sound unbearable to the ears.
All of An He’s hatred was focused on Chi You alone, so to escape, someone else would need to draw her wrath away.
Just like fighting a boss.
Chi You sat on the sofa, took out her ever-present phone, found Jiang Pan’s contact, and sent a message directly.
