Chapter 24: An Unexpected Gain
Then Liu Yang used the same method to set fire to the other nine high-rise buildings.
The flames roared fiercely.
The ten tall residential buildings crackled as they burned.
At that moment, on the top floor of one of the buildings, a survivor jumped from the height, landing heavily with a sickening thud, their skull instantly shattered.
Witnessing this, Liu Yang was somewhat surprised.
He hadn’t expected any survivors inside the high-rise residential buildings.
They had been besieged by zombies for days and had tenaciously clung to life, only to ultimately choose to jump to their death due to the raging fire.
Yet Liu Yang showed neither emotion nor guilt.
Once trapped inside those buildings, their lives were already on a countdown; they were merely clinging to existence. Starvation was inevitable, and there was simply no way out.
The only possible outcomes were to starve to death or be devoured by zombies while desperately searching for food.
By setting the fires and forcing them to jump, Liu Yang had actually granted them an early release.
Truly a merciful act.
As the blaze continued, Liu Yang received a prompt from the system.
“Congratulations, host. You have attacked and killed a total of 6,600 zombies and gained 660 attribute points!”
Liu Yang was instantly thrilled upon seeing this message.
He had already killed over six thousand zombies?
Before, in the villa district, he had killed fewer than three hundred zombies. Burning down the residential buildings had immediately pushed that number to 6,600.
This meant there were over 6,000 zombies inside those buildings!
With 660 attribute points, he could evenly distribute 165 points across his four basic attributes.
This effectively doubled his attribute points!
Previously, he had earned only 30 points for a triple kill and 50 points for a five-kill, and all combined, his attributes had risen only to 160.
But burning ten residential buildings granted him 165 points at once!
Once fully allocated, his four core attributes would reach 325 each.
This was 6.5 times the 50 points of an ordinary human.
What did this mean?
An average person takes 12 seconds to run 100 meters; Liu Yang now needed less than two seconds!
He was essentially a true superhuman.
Without hesitation, he chose to allocate the points.
“Prompt: Congratulations, host, attribute points successfully added!”
“Current attributes: Strength 325, Speed 325, Stamina 325, Spirit 325!”
Seeing this, Liu Yang clenched his fists, feeling power surge through him.
He believed that with his current strength, even without special abilities, a single punch could blow a zombie’s head apart!
Just by setting a fire, he gained so many attribute points. Such a reward was immensely satisfying.
He pondered to himself:
“It seems I must deal with even more zombies! One attribute point per ten zombies killed—this reward is truly irresistible!”
The university was very close to the villa district, separated only by a wall. Climbing over it was easy, which was why many wealthy second-generation heirs lived in that villa area. It looked like his next move would be to sneak into the university and see if he could set a few fires there as well.
He also planned to raid the school’s convenience store and cafeteria, claiming all the food for himself.
Burning down the ten residential buildings had already killed over 6,000 zombies, which thrilled Liu Yang greatly.
The university housed about 30,000 students.
Except for those wealthy students who rented apartments nearby, most students stayed on campus.
And the disaster had erupted on a weekend morning.
Many students were likely still asleep in their dormitories.
This meant the zombies inside the school were mainly concentrated in the ten dormitory buildings.
Five were male dorms, and five were female dorms.
If he burned down those ten dormitories, he might kill as many as 20,000 zombies!
That would net him 2,000 attribute points!
Just thinking about it made Liu Yang excited.
He began his next simulation.
In the simulation, he arrived beside the wall.
The school was just on the other side.
He crouched and leapt, clearing the three-meter wall with ease and landing smoothly inside the campus.
Several zombies nearby immediately spotted him and, with eager expressions, lunged wildly at him.
Liu Yang grabbed his firefighting axe, dispatching them one by one.
Within seconds, they were all dead.
He then rushed toward the school cafeteria.
Since it wasn’t mealtime during the outbreak, the cafeteria was nearly empty, save for a few staff members turned zombies—only a few dozen.
Liu Yang raised his axe and quickly slaughtered them all.
Next, he entered the kitchen storage room.
Seeing the fully stocked warehouse, Liu Yang grew excited.
“Wow! Over fifty bags each of fifty-kilogram rice and flour! Taking it all!”
“Ten or so ten-liter barrels of cooking oil? Taking them too!”
“A heap of fruits and vegetables? All taken!”
“All kinds of fresh meat and cooked delicacies? All mine!”
“Electric stoves, gas stoves, gas tanks? All collected! Maybe I can use the gas tanks to blow up zombies if necessary!”
...
Liu Yang thoroughly ransacked the school cafeteria. His dark space was vast, so he took everything useful or not.
Even if some items seemed useless now, they might come in handy later.
After finishing with the cafeteria, he moved on to the convenience store.
It was stocked with numerous packaged foods—bread, sausages, biscuits, vacuum-packed chicken legs, milk, drinks, and so on.
Liu Yang gathered all of it into his space.
This massive amount of food would sustain him and Su Xiao’s group for years!
Having done all this, he left, preparing to burn down the ten dormitories.
Before entering the school, he had filled several bottles with gasoline and stored them in his space.
Once at the dorms, he just needed to pour the gasoline.
On his way to the dormitories, he passed the infirmary and noticed several zombies wandering nearby.
One zombie repeatedly rammed its head against the infirmary door.
Liu Yang frowned. This was clearly unusual.
Zombies only bang on doors when they intend to attack survivors.
And only zombies with a bit of intelligence would do so.
The wooden door of the infirmary was already cracked and might soon be broken down.
Seeing Liu Yang appear, the zombies immediately focused on him and charged.
Without hesitation, Liu Yang raised his axe and struck.
Five zombies fell quickly.
He approached the infirmary window to look inside.
Sure enough, a terrified female student was huddled and trembling.
Liu Yang opened the door and entered.
The woman’s face showed fear as he came in, shrinking into a corner.
Liu Yang spoke softly:
“Don’t be afraid, I’m not a zombie. I can take you to a safe place. Come with me.”
“Are you… are you part of a rescue team? Here to save us?” The girl’s face lit up with hope upon seeing him.
“No, I’m just here for food. But I might as well save you while I’m at it,” Liu Yang said.
The hope in her eyes dimmed.
Seeing her disappointment, Liu Yang added, “I have food.”
At those words, her eyes brightened once more with hope.
Liu Yang considered himself lucky.
He had come to the school just to burn the dormitories and gain attribute points, but unexpectedly, he found a beautiful woman.
This was truly a fortunate bonus.
