Chapter 62: Pouring Lamp Oil Down the Throat

Luo Bin felt an excruciating pain in his right shoulder. He already had a wound there, and the recent scuffle had ripped it wide open, blood soaking through his clothes.

His greater concern now was Luo Feng's condition. The wound on Luo Feng's left hand was not stopping to bleed—something bad was bound to happen!

Yet Chen Xianxian had bolted the door shut behind her, making escape impossible.

As for the malevolent entity Chen Xianxian masqueraded as right before them, her skin looked as smooth as suet jade, delicate enough to be pierced by a breath, but in reality, it was so thick that a knife couldn't even puncture it.

Why was she so indestructible?

And why was he so fragile? How had a goat horn managed to pierce him like a skeleton?!

"It's over... I'm going to die... It's all over..." Zhang Li wept, his face contorted in despair. Shivering, he crawled toward the side of the door, utterly hopeless.

Chen Xianxian moved again!

She didn't seem hurried at all, still smiling with seductive, watery eyes. She wiped across her lips the hand that had injured Luo Feng's arm, smearing a bright, bloody stain across the corners of her mouth.

"Shall I let you die beneath the peony blossom?"

"It's been so long, I think I want a man. But I only woke up when it got dark, and meeting people, I just couldn't help wanting to bite through their throats. It's been so long since I felt like a normal person. Won't you two just stop fighting?"

Goosebumps erupted all over Luo Bin's skin.

This was not just a malevolent entity; she was a lunatic!

Luo Feng moved as well. With steps swift as the wind, he rushed straight toward Chen Xianxian and violently thrust his knife directly at her eyeball!

Taking three strides in two, Luo Bin dashed toward the door!

He lunged and stabbed his knife viciously into the crack of the door. Alas, the gap was far too narrow; the blade simply wouldn't fit!

He had hoped to pry open the outer lock from the inside, but that plan instantly fell through.

A piercing shriek suddenly burst from Chen Xianxian's lips.

Luo Bin whipped his head around just in time to see a knife deeply embedded in Chen Xianxian's eye socket!

Though her flesh was tough, the entity's eyeball was indeed her weak spot—fragile enough to burst at a single poke!

Furthermore, Chen Xianxian's movements were sluggish; even as Luo Feng retreated, she did not chase him down with any speed.

She merely flailed her hands, grasping only empty air.

Amidst this life-or-death crisis, a flash of inspiration struck Luo Bin's mind, and he roared at the top of his lungs:

"Dad! The lamp oil!"

"Pour the lamp oil down her throat!"

Though he didn't know why he was different from Chen Xianxian, lamp oil could suppress an entity's instincts!

Lamp oil was the medicine to cure a malevolent entity!

No sooner said than done, Luo Feng swiftly skirted behind Chen Xianxian, grabbed her ponytail with one hand, and kicked fiercely behind her knees.

With a dull, metallic crash, Chen Xianxian fell hard backward, the back of her head slamming violently against the floor.

Luo Feng braced his legs against her shoulders and clutched her ponytail with both hands. She thrashed her arms backward, trying to grab Luo Feng's arms!

With sharp eyes and even quicker reflexes, Luo Bin rushed forward, grabbed the oil lamp hanging from the beam, crouched down, flipped the lamp over, and inverted it directly over Chen Xianxian's mouth!

Half a lamp's worth of oil poured straight down Chen Xianxian's throat. Her hands, which had just been clawing at Luo Feng's arms, suddenly twitched and went limp. Her entire body spasmed as if electrocuted, shivering like a fish stranded on dry land lacking oxygen, striking the floor with dull, rhythmic thuds.

Luo Feng's already injured arm gained several more bloody gashes, and his other forearm was equally covered in wounds.

Luo Bin pressed down on the oil lamp with all his might, not daring to let go, practically straddling Chen Xianxian's body.

Chen Xianxian possessed immense strength!

If Luo Bin relaxed even the slightest bit, she would likely flip him over.

After what felt like an eternity, Chen Xianxian finally stopped moving.

It was only after a few more minutes that Luo Bin dared to release his grip.

The heavy stench of blood permeated the living room.

He breathed heavily, his right arm equally soaked in blood, the wounds completely torn open.

Luo Feng looked even more gruesome, practically drenched in blood. He had torn his ruined clothes into strips and bound his wounds tightly to staunch the bleeding.

This alone demonstrated Luo Feng's iron will; he hadn't uttered a single groan despite such severe injuries.

Zhang Li scrambled out of the room, staring blankly at Chen Xianxian, then stupidly back and forth between the father and son, Luo Feng and Luo Bin.

The door opened. Luo Feng had pried apart a section of the wood to locate the external lock, then smashed it to pieces with a single strike of his knife before finally pushing the door open.

Outside stood a small crowd of villagers, peering and watching from both ends of the alley.

The commotion of the fight had not been small. Although the alley had no other doors or windows, it still backed up against other courtyards, and being near the village entrance, the area was densely populated.

The villagers looked at the blood-covered Luo Bin and Luo Feng, their faces filled with shock and terror.

When they spotted Zhang Li as well, the murmurs and discussions grew even louder.

Zhong Zhicheng had arrived.

Luo Feng gave a slight nod and invited him inside.

The explanation was concise and to the point, covering everything that needed to be said.

Spoken in a low voice, those outside could not hear.

Luo Feng's rationale was simple: Chen Xianxian had raised a malevolent entity, who was her own sister. Whether this matter could be made public depended entirely on Zhong Zhicheng's stance. If Zhong Zhicheng spread it recklessly and caused panic in the village, the responsibility would fall on him.

Zhang Li was still inside the house, looking paranoid and frightened of everyone he saw.

"No wonder I hadn't seen those two sisters appear together for a while; it was always either the older sister outside or the younger sister outside, all impersonated by the younger one, Chen Xianxian. Apart from Zhu Qianqian, there must have been others killed by the entity recently, right?" Zhong Zhicheng muttered to himself.

Neither Luo Bin nor Luo Feng answered.

"Why didn't she kill you?" Zhong Zhicheng turned his head, staring fixedly at Zhang Li.

"I... I don't know... Chen Xianxian kept me alive... Maybe... she doesn't need to eat people every day..." Zhang Li's face was pale with misery.

"Hmm. The frequency of entities harming people has been low in recent years; indeed, she doesn't need to feed constantly. However, Chen Xianxian was being cautious. Capturing you wasn't enough, she had to target Luo Shan as well. Perhaps, taking advantage of the village's chaos these past few days, she wanted to fish in troubled waters, thinking no one would notice her," Zhong Zhicheng mused thoughtfully.

"Does this need to be made public?" Luo Feng asked.

Zhong Zhicheng fell silent, then nodded and said, "Chen Xianxian has escaped. If it isn't made public, no one will know how dangerous she is. Besides, who knows if anyone else in the village is harboring a malevolent entity?"

"Anyone whose left pinky fingernail is plucked out will turn into an entity. But will there always be someone reluctant to part with family ties? Or harboring some other motive? Keeping someone who is about to turn into an entity."

"Why didn't yesterday's village search turn up Chen Xianxian?"

With that, Zhong Zhicheng glanced back down at the motionless Chen Xianxian on the floor.

"I'll go ask Jiang Shan," Luo Feng said in a low voice.

"No need, we know the reason in our hearts," Zhong Zhicheng shook his head and continued, "The members of the young men's brigade can no longer be trusted. That's the result a village search produced."

"That's an isolated case, and the Chen sisters themselves had too many underlying issues," Luo Feng offered another low explanation.

"You and your son should go see the shaman to treat your injuries first," Zhong Zhicheng changed the subject.

"Alright," Luo Feng nodded, saying nothing more.

"Oh, right, Luo Shan, how did you know that lamp oil could subdue her?" Zhong Zhicheng suddenly shifted his gaze, staring directly at Luo Bin.
