Chapter 54: Scientific Exploration A
Professor Su paused in thought before slowly saying, "Actually, the birth of modern computers owes a great deal to Leibniz's study and development of the binary arithmetic of Eastern Yin and Yang. According to the ancients, before the binary lies the unary, and before the unary lies Wuji, which is the primordial chaos. Within this chaotic realm, the concepts of space and time do not exist, and there, traveling freely across dimensions might truly be possible. This cannot help but grant us a newfound appreciation for the wisdom of the ancients."
Shen Xingyun continued, "Professor Su, if the figures captured in this footage are indeed ancient people, then this super-energy event caused a space-time displacement. In other words, our scientific experiment has entered a parallel cosmic dimension."
Professor Su replied, "Precisely. It is much like a mirror, which reflects two images. If we call this side of the mirror 'Yang,' then the reverse side is 'Yin.' Between the mirror surfaces lies the chaotic realm you spoke of. If we could shatter the mirror surface and enter the chaotic realm, wouldn't that be equivalent to finding a mirrored node for traversing time and space?"
Lin Yizhou had not expected Su Chunyang to use a mirror as a metaphor for the relationship between space and time. Intrigued by this novel perspective, he said enthusiastically, "That makes sense. Though bold, this idea has a certain logical foundation. According to ancient Chinese cosmology, if the Yang realm is the physical reality we inhabit, the Yin realm is very likely another world entirely, or even a parallel world. The question then arises: what exactly is it that connects these two worlds? Could it truly be the River of Forgetfulness as the legends say? This is a question worthy of our deep exploration."
Shen Xingyun stated, "President Lin, whether it is the River of Forgetfulness you mentioned or the chaos within the mirror described by Professor Su, from a scientific standpoint, I believe the medium connecting these two worlds is most likely light. Although in contemporary society we are still unable to surpass the speed of light, if we were to break through this limit one day, it might become possible to return to the past or fly into the future. Furthermore, the degree to which we exceed the speed of light might determine the exact coordinates of the space-time we reach. This is a tremendously challenging scientific hypothesis, yet it provides a new direction for our research."
Hearing this, Ding Bainian nodded repeatedly in agreement, saying, "That stands to reason. This approach is highly innovative and might just provide the crucial clues we need to solve the mystery of space-time."
With a focused expression, Lin Yizhou slowly remarked, "To my knowledge, decades ago, people already began to re-examine and deeply discuss the cosmic mysteries contained in the Dao De Jing, the Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon, and the I Ching. These ancient texts harbor boundless wisdom, and we truly ought to pay more attention to the ways in which the ancients interpreted the world. We might just find answers to our current problems within them."
Professor Zhao Xinru expressed heartfelt agreement and added, "I believe the theory of Taiji and Yin and Yang is a magnificent contribution by Eastern humanity to the understanding of the world. If we view it as an interpretation of the entire cosmos, the worldview and profound wisdom formed by early humans are undoubtedly among our finest avenues for uncovering the origin of the world. Professor Su, I entirely agree with President Lin's view. If we could integrate traditional Chinese Yin and Yang theory into our exploration of neutrino mechanics, it could very well lead to major breakthroughs and discoveries."
Ding Bainian joined the discussion as well, analyzing from a geological perspective, "Judging from the current situation, the intense geomagnetic vortex interference and the mysterious trans-spatial transmission signals that have appeared in the Himalayan region all indicate that some mysterious force is undoubtedly hidden within the glacial world. Whether it is that towering gourd-shaped structure or the peculiar sight resembling the stone array set up by Zhuge Liang during the Three Kingdoms period, profound secrets must be embedded within them, making them well worth our thorough investigation."
Hearing this, Lin Yizhou was overjoyed. As a firm believer in ancient Chinese science, he always grew excited whenever he heard discussions of ancient Chinese inventions and creations. Unable to help himself, he asked, "Could the problems that occurred at the frozen experimental station truly be linked to these mysterious phenomena?"
***
After careful consideration, Su Chunyang replied, "If we temporarily set aside the complex factors introduced by differing space-times, the cause of the experimental deviations is likely concealed deep within the Himalayas. This is because every time we generate a trans-spatial centrifugal effect to directly compress space and time using supergravity centrifuge mainframes—such as model machines, heavy-load machines, and high-speed machines—along with numerous onboard devices, antimatter leakage invariably occurs despite being controlled by high-magnetic-energy coils. It appears that a secret remains undiscovered in that region."
Ding Bainian nodded in agreement and supplemented, "Aside from the factors inherent to the scientific experiment itself, I believe the occurrence of this accidental phenomenon should also be closely related to changes in the broader space environment, such as the influence of asteroids." Turning his head toward Shen Xingyun, he asked, "Professor Shen, do you think that, much like the moon's gravitational pull affecting the Qiantang tides, the approach of an asteroid cluster could impact the Earth's own energetic structure?"
Upon hearing the mention of asteroids, Shen Xingyun immediately responded, "To humanity, the universe remains an enormous enigma, and our understanding of it is still like blind men touching an elephant. The reasons why asteroids break away from their original orbits to fly toward Earth remain unclear to this day. However, I suspect it may indeed be related to certain factors native to Earth; the newly formed energy field might very well be the catalyst attracting them."
Su Chunyang pressed further, "Are you suggesting that our experiments may have attracted the asteroids?"
Realizing he had touched upon a sensitive subject, Shen Xingyun responded cautiously, "This is merely a conjecture; nothing is certain at present..." As he spoke, he projected a three-dimensional holographic star map onto the screen, which clearly displayed the recent orbital trajectories of the asteroid clusters.
Pointing to the imaging, Shen Xingyun explained, "Based on recent observations, the region where the asteroids are most likely to approach Earth is the Himalayan region of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Let us make this assumption: because the experiment triggered the loss of neutrino antimatter, this circumstance may have provoked a specific reaction in the plateau region, thereby activating a certain substance beneath the plateau and causing it to release specialized energy."
Zhao Xinru asked with puzzlement, "I have heard that, according to the predictions of Einstein's general theory of relativity, gravity causes time to slow down, and no matter can escape the immense gravitational pull of a black hole, not even light. How on earth are asteroids generated? Could they originate from a black hole? What kind of entity is a black hole, really?"
Lin Yizhou chimed in, "Indeed. The Chinese understanding of the starry sky has often been imbued with rich humanistic concepts, upholding the philosophy of the unity of heaven and humanity, and considering it the optimal choice for humans to follow natural laws. Yet modern science points out that cosmic black holes are mysterious celestial bodies capable of warping space and time. Do they truly govern everything like some supreme deity?"
Su Chunyang explained, "As far as I know, Western perspectives on the starry sky stem more from the standpoint of scientific exploration. In 1916, German astronomer Karl Schwarzschild calculated a vacuum solution using Einstein's gravitational field equations. This solution demonstrated that when an object is continuously compressed until it reaches its critical radius characteristic value, it collapses into a black hole."
Professor Shen nodded affirmatively, "Professor Su is entirely correct. That critical value is the Schwarzschild radius. Time on the surface of a black hole is nearly stationary compared to Earth, yet its capacity to warp time and compress space is sufficient to form a space-time tunnel. However, it must be made clear that the cluster of asteroids we are focusing on did not escape from a black hole."
***
Hearing this, everyone was filled with curiosity: where on earth did these small asteroids originate?
Shen Xingyun went on to explain, "On a certain level, a black hole is a celestial body with space-time curvature so intense that even light cannot escape. Its gravitational pull is extreme, and any matter or energy approaching it is ruthlessly devoured. The legendary white hole, on the other hand, is a special celestial body hypothesized by scientists based on the definition of black holes within the framework of general relativity. It is the exact opposite of a black hole, generated in compliance with the law of conservation of energy."
Taking over the conversation with a focused expression, Professor Su asked earnestly, "Could it be understood this way: matter is completely disintegrated into elementary particles at the singularity of a black hole, then transmitted through a wormhole to a white hole, and subsequently radiated outward?"
Nodding slightly, Shen Xingyun replied, "That is one way to understand it, but the situation regarding the asteroids we are tracking is different. To be precise, they successfully escaped while the black hole had not yet fully formed, or rather, while it was still in the process of formation."
Looking thoughtful upon hearing this, Professor Su asked further, "Does that mean they are free bodies in space, unaffected by other powerful gravitational influences?"
Shaking his head, Shen Xingyun explained, "Not quite either. Their emergence should still have an origin point." With that, he operated his equipment, cleanly projecting a cosmic star map onto the screen before the group, and continued, "We have currently verified that the asteroids broke away from the orbit of a neutron star that is in the process of forming. Managing to escape the formidable gravitational pull of a neutron star is truly an accident and highly extraordinary; perhaps they inherently contain some kind of special substance."
Su Chunyang's eyes lit up as he pursued, "Are you saying the composition of these asteroids is unusual?" Seeming to have found a crucial piece of evidence, he said with a resolute tone, "Therefore, I believe that gaining a deep understanding of the internal structure of these asteroids is vital to studying the internal material relationships of the Earth."
With a serious expression, Shen Xingyun stated, "Based on what occurred during the recent impact of the asteroid Addis on the moon, we have every reason to believe that the Himalayas of today appear to have become the new target for these asteroids."
