Chapter 27: Bullet Warning, Wang Ao’s Setback
As Wang Ao finished speaking, a domineering and arrogant aura emanated from him, possessing a certain air of a warlord. Some people felt a chill and instinctively took a step back. Conversely, Wang Ao’s lackeys all held their heads high, brimming with fighting spirit. It was well known that Wang Ao was a ruthless man who had killed on the very first day. This was why people feared him, and also why they chose to follow him. Human beings are complex creatures, and it is difficult to define them as purely good or evil. At the very least, in the eyes of these followers, as long as Wang Ao could help them survive, he was a good man.
"Ha!" Xu Lang let out a cold laugh. With a crisp click, he ejected the magazine, revealing the gleaming bullets, then slotted it back in. Looking at Wang Ao, he said, "I still have seven bullets left."
As he spoke, he walked straight forward two steps. Wang Ao instinctively retreated, then said with growing annoyance, "Xu Lang, what is the meaning of this? Are you trying to pick a fight with me?"
"Everything is out in the open now, so what is there left to say?" Xu Lang shrugged. "I have fewer people here. Rather than having the air-dropped supplies snatched by you during the chaos, I might as well finish you off first!"
The crowd gasped in unison. Wang Ao’s lackeys, in particular, subconsciously scattered a bit further. Damn, Wang Ao was ruthless, but Xu Lang was even more so!
"I heard Zhou Tao was shot dead by Xu Lang. Could that be true?"
"Very likely. I heard a gunshot near the gymnasium back then."
"This guy is actually killing people just to seize supplies, and wasting bullets like that—his bloodlust is way too high!"
The surrounding crowd murmured, watching Xu Lang nervously, terrified that he might have a breakdown and put a bullet in them. In an environment like this, people were capable of anything—even jumping to their deaths.
"Xu Lang, do you know what kind of ability I have awakened?" Wang Ao shouted sternly. He was furious, knowing that a confrontation with Xu Lang was inevitable, but he hadn't expected it to come so soon.
"Can you resist bullets?"
"Don't push your luck!"
"Can you resist bullets?"
"I have eight people here!"
"Can they resist bullets?"
"..."
Wang Ao’s face turned green, and he couldn't help but retreat into the crowd. As Xu Lang spoke, he continued to advance step by step, his arm appearing to hang loosely at his side, while his finger remained firmly on the trigger.
"I’ll give you thirty seconds. If you don't leave, I’ll start shooting indiscriminately," Xu Lang sneered.
"Xu Lang, don't go too far!" Finally, a young man from Wu Huihui’s group couldn't hold back.
"Too far?" Xu Lang scanned them with cold eyes. "If I hadn't taken care of those two special zombies, you would all be dead. And you say I’m going too far?"
What kind of era was this? He had no patience for playing elaborate mind games. This wasn't a peaceful society; it was a blood-soaked battlefield, darker than any jungle. If it weren't for the fact that he didn't want the overall strength of the dormitory building to be too weak, he would have blown Wang Ao’s brains out just now!
The young man’s lips trembled with anger, but when he saw Xu Lang glare at him, he quickly hid himself.
"You want to hog everything for yourself? Be careful you don't choke to death!" Wang Ao raged. An air-drop was clearly a treasure; he wouldn't give up his share unless he absolutely had to.
"That’s still better than starving to death," Xu Lang retorted coldly.
Wang Ao tried to argue his case, attempting to rally support. "You’re being too selfish. The air-drop belongs to everyone!"
"You have no right to stand on a moral high ground and judge me," Xu Lang snapped. "If it weren't for the fact that you’re still somewhat useful, I’d kill you right now!"
As he spoke, he narrowed his eyes, his temples pulsing slightly, his expression so ferocious that no one doubted his words. Everyone realized that compared to Wang Ao, Xu Lang was the tougher nut to crack.
"Xu Lang, I have a better way," Wang Ao suddenly stepped out, chest puffed out. "How about we have a one-on-one duel? No need to fight over it. If you win, we’ll acknowledge you as the boss."
Bang!
A gunshot rang out! Xu Lang fired toward his left without hesitation. A young man in black, who had been stealthily creeping toward him, collapsed instantly. A clean headshot!
In an instant, the entire crowd was struck with terror. Wang Ao was the one provoking you, so why the hell did you kill a passerby?! Was this Xu Lang actually a madman?
"That looks like one of Wang Ao’s men," a bystander exclaimed.
"Trying to pull that trick on me!" Xu Lang looked at Wang Ao with a playful smirk. On the surface, he was calm and collected, but inside, he was amazed. This 'Super Intuition' was truly incredible! Even though the youth hadn't been in his direct line of sight, he had been radiating deep hostility and slowly closing in. He had been worried about how to establish his authority, and this guy had just delivered himself on a silver platter!
In this survival game, a madman was far more dangerous than a coward. It turned out to be one of Wang Ao’s men, which made things even better. Xu Lang stared at the pale-faced Wang Ao, his cold eyes filled with intense aggression. He tilted his chin up slightly, a faint smile playing on his lips. It was a classic display of animalistic provocation. If Wang Ao truly dared to charge, he wouldn't mind using two more bullets. At most, it would just mean sleeping twice to level up his pistol, which would refill his ammunition.
"Wang Ao, let Xu Lang have the supplies. He is the biggest reason we were able to survive this time," Wu Huihui spoke up just as the tension between the two reached its peak.
Wang Ao looked at her in disbelief. "Wu Huihui, have you lost your mind? You’re not going to fight for this?"
"I just don't think we need to cause any more casualties." Wu Huihui shook her head and turned to the others. "Let’s go. Let’s take this opportunity to find more supplies elsewhere."
As she spoke, she actually led her group away.
"Sister Hui, we’re just leaving like this? We could at least fight for a share!" one of the boys complained anxiously, feeling frustrated. Wu Huihui lacked ambition! Why were there so many strategists and warriors in the Three Kingdoms era? Because in chaotic times, if you didn't stand out, you died! Trying to be humble in a dormitory survival game was as pointless as holding a lantern in a latrine!
"Do you think Xu Lang looks like the type to share?" Wu Huihui said. She pretended to look around, then added, "Xu Lang is from our tenth floor. If he gets stronger, our overall safety increases as well!"
When the others thought about it, that actually made sense. Those who thought Wu Huihui was being weak also calmed down. In truth, there was more than one reason why Wu Huihui agreed to leave. While Xu Lang and Wang Ao were facing off, Xu Lang had sent her a private message: if she stood aside, he would give her one bullet in the future; if she helped him directly, he would give her three. One bullet was one chance to survive! Wu Huihui was deeply tempted; she weighed the pros and cons, accepted the deal, and didn't tell anyone else about it. Having gone through so much, Wu Huihui had learned to be a bit smarter.
As for why she didn't wait to see if she could help when they started fighting... well, she felt that if she didn't provoke Xu Lang, Wang Ao wouldn't dare to fight him anyway. Wang Ao had also been sending her private messages, all urging her to attack, to kill, and promising to split the loot if they took Xu Lang down. While that offer was tempting, Wang Ao just didn't seem as reliable as Xu Lang, and his words were full of hot air.
