Chapter 33: Wang Yazhi Is in Position
The players kept showering Xu Lang with praise, making Cao Yaxuan and Tong Qi beam with pride as they each took hold of Xu Lang’s arm, their faces blooming with smiles.
Feeling that this was the perfect moment, Xu Lang sent a message to Wang Yazhi.
[200 Xu Lang: Do you want to come live with me?]
Unlike Xu Lang, Wang Yazhi didn’t receive many private messages, so she hadn’t set up any filters and saw the message immediately.
Her heart skipped a beat, and her cheeks flushed red.
After hesitating for a moment, she began to reply.
[193 Wang Yazhi: Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?]
[200 Xu Lang: Then forget it.]
[193 Wang Yazhi: Okay, I’ll come take a look right away!]
Seeing Xu Lang’s casual chat, Wang Yazhi’s heart tightened, almost breaking her composure.
Is this how boys pursue girls nowadays?
It actually seemed quite reasonable.
Though she knew this no longer mirrored a harmonious society, Wang Yazhi couldn’t help but feel nervous at the thought of going to Xu Lang’s room.
Her family situation was no better than Cao Yaxuan’s; it was just that hers was more traditional.
Most girls wouldn’t hesitate for a second if given such an opportunity.
It was no exaggeration to say that every living woman had at some point hinted the same to Xu Lang.
“Xiao Zhu, if—I mean, hypothetically—if Xu Lang asked you to come over right now, what would you do?” Wang Yazhi asked the owner of Dorm 193.
The girl, petite in stature, immediately exclaimed, “Yajie, is Xu Lang asking you to come over right now?”
“Yeah,” Wang Yazhi nodded, a trace of puzzlement flashing through her mind.
Something felt off.
Hadn’t she said “if”? How did Xiao Zhu know the truth?
Xiao Zhu’s startled shout drew everyone’s attention.
Since their group was mostly female, buying supplies like sanitary pads in the living area, the sound of Xiao Zhu’s cry made everyone’s gaze toward Wang Yazhi shift.
Wang Yazhi was about to hit the big time!
Some boys’ eyes flickered with envy, jealousy, and resentment.
An elegant, scholarly sister like Wang Yazhi naturally attracted their interest.
In such extreme conditions, desires ran high. Things that were unthinkable before now played out repeatedly in their minds, and who knew when they might act on them.
Wang Yazhi, faced with exposure, did not deny anything but carried herself with a certain grace.
“Yazhi, is what Xiao Zhu said true?” Wu Huihui approached and asked softly.
Wang Yazhi nodded.
Wu Huihui didn’t know what to say next.
It felt like the strong oppressing the weak, or perhaps the strong bestowing charity upon the weak.
Yet ninety-nine percent of people would see it as the latter.
After all, this was the reality of their world.
“I’ll escort Yazhi. You all wait here, and then we’ll sweep the floors together,” Wu Huihui told the others.
Though unspoken, everyone was covertly wary of Wang Ao.
...
“Wang Yazhi is coming soon,” Xu Lang told Cao Yaxuan and Tong Qi in Dorm 200.
The two women were momentarily stunned; Cao Yaxuan’s face fell, while Tong Qi pondered briefly before smiling and saying, “Great, four people have more strength.”
“That’s the idea,” Xu Lang smiled.
The more people, the faster he thrived—especially beautiful women.
Cao Yaxuan murmured,
“Xu Lang, can you handle it?”
“At this rate, you’ll die in bed someday.”
“Besides, our bed isn’t even big enough yet.”
The tiny nightmare bed was already nearly bursting with three people; four would be a cramped human hamburger.
Xu Lang patted his chest confidently, “No worries. As long as I can protect one more life, squeezing in a bit won’t matter.”
Cao Yaxuan: “...”
Tong Qi: “...”
Even Tong Qi felt the shamelessness of that comment.
“Suit yourself!” Cao Yaxuan muttered sullenly.
Tong Qi smoothed things over, “It’s okay. Senior Wang Yazhi is a good person.”
Soon, the doorbell chimed.
Xu Lang glanced at the monitor and saw only Wang Yazhi and Wu Huihui outside.
“I’ll get the door.”
He walked over and opened it.
Wang Yazhi’s long black hair fell over her shoulders, and she wore a white pleated skirt. When she saw Xu Lang, her gaze flickered but did not shy away or lower; instead, she looked him squarely in the eyes.
“Come in,” Xu Lang stepped aside with a smile.
“Xu Lang, don’t bully Yazhi!” Wu Huihui said sternly.
Xu Lang glanced at her petite frame and nodded with a smile, “Don’t worry. You can tell how good I treat women by looking at Yaxuan and Tong Qi’s spirits.”
“Huihui, you don’t have to worry about me,” Wang Yazhi said to Wu Huihui.
Wu Huihui nodded, watched the door close, and then turned to leave.
Inside the room, Wang Yazhi asked, “Should I change shoes?”
The shoe cabinet held a few pairs of indoor slippers as a formality, but none of the three usually used them.
In this environment, such formalities were meaningless.
“Go ahead,” Xu Lang nodded, noticing Wang Yazhi’s ankles were quite fair.
Being looked at so intently made Wang Yazhi blush.
Xu Lang placed a pair of shoes beside her, and she began to change.
The moment her pale foot slipped out of the flats, Xu Lang knew it was worth it.
He hadn’t made a mistake choosing his third tenant.
She was a true masterpiece.
Her ankles were beautifully rounded, the arch of her foot smooth, the flesh and bone evenly proportioned. Her skin was as white and pure as mutton fat jade, subtly shimmering with a moist radiance. The faint veins on the top of her foot added an irreplaceable touch of realism.
Xu Lang looked again at Wang Yazhi and saw a flush spreading across her neck.
Moreover, his comfort level rose sharply—by two points!
He was surprised.
So he had this preference after all?
It wasn’t that it didn’t exist, just that the time hadn’t come.
“Xu Lang.” Wang Yazhi shyly clenched her fists, as if her feet were some shameful part of her body.
Xu Lang came back to himself, cleared his throat, and led Wang Yazhi to the living room. “Have a seat first.”
Wang Yazhi didn’t sit immediately but glanced over the room’s layout.
Xu Lang’s dorm was about the same size as Wu Huihui’s but arranged quite differently.
“Yajie, do you want something to eat?” Tong Qi asked thoughtfully.
Cao Yaxuan refused to be the icebreaker, so Tong Qi took the role.
“I’m not hungry yet,” Wang Yazhi waved her hand.
“Whether hungry or not, we’re about to have dinner,” Xu Lang smiled.
The three started cooking.
Cao Yaxuan pouted like an oil bottle but was quickly tamed by a kiss from Xu Lang.
Wang Yazhi felt awkward, like a guest.
Eventually, she caught on to their cooking rhythm and stepped forward to help.
A clock hung on the wall opposite the sofa, its three hands moving quietly until it was eight in the evening.
Only then did the four finally eat.
The meal was abundant. Even Wang Yazhi, who wasn’t greedy, felt as if she might swallow her tongue.
Night deepened quietly.
