Ma En sat comfortably in the armchair, feeling cheerful. The locked safe was positioned just slightly ahead of him, but he had no interest in its contents.

Because he was about to be discharged.

Click.

Xu Wen pushed the door open and entered.

“Sorry, I’ve been a bit busy lately.”

“No problem,” Ma En replied, his mood quite good.

The young doctor walked over to the desk and sat down, organizing the files in his hands before smiling at Ma En.

“There’s news about your discharge; it should be arranged by next week.”

Ma En’s expression paused briefly.

But Xu Wen hadn’t finished.

“However, due to Lu Yide’s situation, all other members of your support group will have to change their treatment plans. They might need to receive two injections—none of which have side effects…”

“Are you messing with me?” Ma En asked coldly.

Xu Wen hurriedly explained, “Really, your discharge is already scheduled. I can get you the documents to prove it…”

Ma En narrowed his eyes slightly.

“A new treatment plan right before I’m discharged? If I were you, I’d take this chance to get rid of me. Do you think I’d believe you?”

Xu Wen shrugged nonchalantly.

“I’ve done my best. If you want, you can talk to the director yourself, though I doubt he’d easily agree to the requests of a psychiatric patient.”

Ma En looked puzzled.

“Don’t you understand? If you’re unwilling to help me with the discharge process, I can switch doctors anytime.”

Xu Wen’s smile faded.

“You know, threats that can’t be carried out only reveal your fear. I know exactly how Victor Sanatorium operates. Patients can’t attack doctors, and likewise, I can’t attack you. So why be so afraid?”

Ma En leaned back comfortably in his chair.

He knew the rules; simple threats wouldn’t work.

He spoke slowly,

“That’s exactly the point. I have a way to circumvent this rule and kill you. I’ve already wanted to act, but I don’t have time to waste. You don’t understand why I need to leave.

“Either I get discharged smoothly today, or…”

Xu Wen kept his gaze fixed on Ma En’s face.

But he saw no trace of fear or worry.

“You know, I shouldn’t be opposing you, Mr. Ma,” the young doctor feigned praise. “I almost backed down, but there’s still one thing: first, I’m not afraid to die, and second…”

“You can’t kill me. Maybe you can smash the head on this body or tear out the heart, but it wouldn’t mean anything.

“Because I’m not Xu Wen.”

Ma En raised his hand.

A coin slid out from his pocket and floated toward Xu Wen.

He snapped his fingers.

Immediately, the coin turned into barely perceptible metallic dust.

“So you mean,” Ma En asked, “even if I turn your whole body into powder, you still won’t die?”

Xu Wen’s smile stiffened.

But he quickly recovered.

“You can’t lay a hand on me. With your abilities, if you really had a way to kill me, you wouldn’t be able to hold back.”

Now Xu Wen began to feel lucky that he had met Ma En here at Victor Sanatorium. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have any chance of gaining the upper hand.

In other circumstances, he would have already arranged Ma En’s discharge, but Xu Wen knew he had no way out.

He smiled triumphantly.

“Don’t worry, what I do to you won’t be more terrifying than death.”

In truth, this was a reflection of himself.

If Ma En truly had the power to kill him, the final outcome wouldn’t be more dreadful than falling into the company’s hands. So why not take the risk?

Ma En shook his head.

“Looks like you’ve made your choice.”

Secondary tactics were useless now.

Thinking it through, Xu Wen wouldn’t take such a risk without hatred or personal gain. There must be some reason driving him that Ma En didn’t understand.

He couldn’t kill Xu Wen.

But as the young doctor had said, there was more than just the two of them with abilities in this hospital.

The key to the last tactic was to leave no trace.

While the two remained locked in a stalemate—

Knock, knock.

“Is Dr. Xu here?” Liu Yujun’s voice came from outside.

She pushed the door open and walked in, looking at Xu Wen urgently.

“Doctor, I have something to tell you.”

She glanced at Ma En, signaling that it wasn’t suitable to speak in his presence.

Xu Wen stood up and looked toward the door.

“Ma En, think it over carefully.”

Then he walked out, pretending not to believe Ma En had the ability to deal with him.

Click.

The door was closed by “Doctor Liu.”

Ma En stood up.

He walked straight to the safe but didn’t take out the “lock opener” Li Fen had given him. Instead, he casually raised his hand.

After a complex mechanical noise, the lock opened.

The safe was divided into three layers.

At the bottom were two piles of gold bars, several black pouches, and other hard currency. The middle layer held stacks of bank cards, an unused will, and some scattered items.

On the top was a notebook placed alone.

Ma En took it out, closed the safe door, and returned to his seat to read.

The first thing he saw was Dr. Li’s transaction records. As he read on, Ma En’s name gradually appeared, along with evaluations of each client.

Dr. Li’s earliest impression seemed to be “a young man with mysterious wealth,” and he mentioned the need for cautious dealings with such a client.

Then Ma En suddenly noticed that nearly one-third of the transactions involved his name, with total amounts approaching a hundred million—several times more than all other patients combined.

It appeared they were not ordinary clients and doctors but had a much closer cooperative relationship.

After the transaction records came more than ten blank pages, followed by a warning.

Most of it was general advice for doctors, but among it were some special instructions.

“If any doctor reads this after I have died, please remember the following:

Do not use violence against patients. Doctors should not enter the intensive care unit between three and four in the morning (except for overtime). Do not offend any patient named Ma En. Do not contact the director…”

He finally reached the last page.

“Hypnotherapy will be conducted this afternoon. May the Almighty Returner bless me and ensure the treatment proceeds smoothly.”

Suddenly, Ma En turned to look out the window.

A black figure tore through the heavy air, falling heavily to the ground.

He rose and moved to the window.

“He was not only too greedy,” Ma En heard himself say, “but utterly fearless in the face of danger. Don’t make the same mistake.”

Dr. Li lay in the garden, staring unwillingly at the spot where Ma En now stood.

His face was full of regret.

Ma En closed his eyes, banishing the turbulent memories from his mind.

When he opened them again, the scene outside had returned to its usual peaceful calm.

His fingers gently brushed the notebook’s edge, letting the last few pages and his memories drift away with the wind.
