Chapter 32: Food of the Trans-Boundary Realm

“Our life in the Transcendence Realm is roughly the same as in reality. The only advantage after death is that you no longer have to eat.”
The young guide’s name was Lin Fan, an unremarkable face that would be forgotten in a crowd, just as ordinary as his name suggested.
Lin Fan had been in the Transcendence Realm for nearly a month but had only ventured into two dungeons. Although he had survived by chance, he gained very few points each time and had to rely on odd jobs to make ends meet.
“My points were only enough to last me one more day. I planned to go into a dungeon tonight if I couldn’t find any clients, but if you really stay at our hotel, the commission I earn will let me scrape by for a couple more days.”
Lin Fan was happily calculating his prospects. He had no desire to enter dungeons unless absolutely necessary—they were a nightmare.
“Why do you have to go into dungeons?” Xia Wulei asked, puzzled. “Can’t you just not go if you don’t want to?”
Lin Fan shook his head helplessly. “In the Transcendence Realm, every day you survive costs ten points by default. When your points run out, you’re forcibly erased.”
Xia Wulei was stunned; she had never heard of such a rule.
“And,” Lin Fan leaned in with a mysterious smile, “I heard that the monsters in those dungeons come out at night to attack players, so having a safe place to stay is ideal.”
This was invaluable information for newcomers. Had Xia Wulei not decided to check into the hotel, Lin Fan wouldn’t have shared so much.
Lin Fan led Xia Wulei to a building and proudly introduced, “This is our Happiness Hotel!”
Though not luxurious, the hotel was at least a three-star by real-world standards. Upon entering, a smiling receptionist greeted them.
“Hello, do you need accommodation?”
Xia Wulei nudged Lin Fan with her elbow. “Is this person a player too?”
Lin Fan shook his head. “Players can’t be formal employees—they never know which dungeon trip might be their last. People like me work on commission only, no clients means no pay.”
Xia Wulei nodded in understanding.
She immediately booked a VIP room for ten days, paying three hundred points, which even caught the attention of the hotel manager.
“Madam, rest assured, as our esteemed guest, we will provide comprehensive services to make your stay worthwhile!”
The manager beamed, practically bowing in gratitude.
After some thought, Xia Wulei asked cautiously, “Do you… provide meals?”
The manager was momentarily taken aback. He rarely encountered outsiders who proactively requested food.
“We can provide meals upon request, madam.”
Xia Wulei nodded approvingly; unlike Lin Fan, she didn’t see not eating as a benefit.
Meanwhile, Lin Fan was ecstatic—he earned a twenty percent commission on bookings, and Xia Wulei’s reservation brought him sixty points!

“Sis! You’re my only sister! Here’s my contact information—just call on me whenever you need anything! I promise to tell you everything I know without holding back!”
Lin Fan handed Xia Wulei a slip of paper with a string of numbers: 43526.
Curious, Xia Wulei asked what it was.
Seeing her confusion, Lin Fan explained, “That’s a player ID. You add me through the system using this number, and I become your friend. Through the system, you can send me messages anytime while in the Transcendence Realm. It’s a convenient way for players to communicate.”
Xia Wulei’s eyes lit up—this was quite useful.
“But you can’t share your ID inside dungeons. It’s a restriction, probably to prevent dungeon crashes.”
Lin Fan scratched his head uncertainly. “I heard a player once leaked their ID in a dungeon, causing monster chaos and wiping out the entire team.”
Lin Fan spoke gravely, but Xia Wulei’s mind was racing with a different thought.
Wow, another exploitable bug!
With his freshly earned points, Lin Fan left, and Xia Wulei was shown to a penthouse room.
Lying on the soft bed, she felt as if she had stepped into another world and soon fell into a deep sleep.
While she slept, the flower on her shoulder glowed faintly with a purple light, gently flickering.
At the same time,
Agent Eight reported Xia Wulei’s recent ordeal to the main system, but midway through the data transmission, the connection silently vanished.
…
Xia Wulei slept soundly until the next day, shedding all the fatigue she had acquired in the dungeon.
Stretching comfortably, she instinctively entered her space to harvest the crops from yesterday, but was startled the moment she entered.
“Ah Shui, why aren’t you in the pond? Why are you lying in front of my farmland?”
Normally, Ah Shui stayed in the pond unless summoned; today, however, she was unusually lying on the ground as if waiting for Xia Wulei.
“Oh, you’re finally here!” Ah Shui sat up immediately upon seeing her.
“Have you reached the Middle Realm? Come on, take me out to see it.”
“What Middle Realm? Do you mean the Transcendence Realm? Can you sense where I am?”
Seeing Ah Shui’s eagerness, Xia Wulei became curious as well.

“Transcendence what? Is that the name?” Ah Shui frowned and shook her head.
“Never mind. I feel the outside air is familiar, but I need your permission to leave, so I’m just waiting here.”
Xia Wulei nodded and carefully reviewed the system rules before speaking to Ah Shui.
“The rules say you must return to the space at least once every six hours after leaving, or you lose your right to reside there.”
Six hours was quite a long time.
Ah Shui nodded. “I just want to take a stroll. Don’t worry, I’ve been stuck in that valley too long—I’m about to go stir crazy.”
Xia Wulei harvested the mature crops, planted the next batch, then took Ah Shui outside.
Standing in the VIP room, Ah Shui seemed a bit lost. She gently touched the soft bedspread, marveling at its texture.
Xia Wulei smiled and pulled her down to sit. “This room is mine. Rest for a bit; I’ll go buy you some clothes. After that, you can go wherever you want—just remember to come back.”
Ah Shui wore a white, worn-out, loose robe, soaked and wrinkled.
At Xia Wulei’s suggestion, Ah Shui nodded shyly.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
“Miss Xia, your breakfast is ready. Should I bring it in now?”
Xia Wulei’s eyes brightened. “Bring it in.”
She wasn’t hungry but was craving something delicious—skipping a meal always felt incomplete.
The cart was pushed in. The waiter noticed Ah Shui but showed no surprise.
“Enjoy your meal.”
After neatly placing the dishes and cutlery, the waiter left the room.
Eagerly lifting the lid on the tray, Xia Wulei froze.
What is this?
