Chapter 33: The Lucky Bracelet and the BGM Speaker!
Luo Shan held the green lucky wheel, his emotions complex. This was, in essence, the first time he had ever spun the wheel for himself. Regardless of what he drew, the prize would be entirely his to command.
He had already consumed the white Longevity Pill he had just received from the Blood Swallow Club. That artificially refined pill had granted him two additional years of life. Now, his remaining lifespan stood at thirteen years. After using this green wheel, he would have only three years left. He was burning through a decade of his life in a single breath.
Previously, Luo Shan had been a nervous wreck just spinning the white wheel, which cost only one year of life. Now, with ten years on the line, his anxiety was far greater. Yet, despite his inner turmoil, he did not act like he had before—frantically and hysterically screaming out his desires. Regardless of his internal state, he appeared composed and dignified on the surface.
Luo Shan realized he had grown. He suddenly understood the ancient story of Mencius’s mother moving three times; environment truly shapes a person. Before, he had spent his days with those shiftless "lifespan-parasites," men who knew nothing but talked endlessly, posturing and bragging about "defying the heavens and changing their fate."
But now, he had distanced himself from that circle. He had encountered Jiang Yi, Gao Chang, and Liao Yuanfeng. He had gone on missions with the death squad. He had seen the world beyond the club and gained deeper insight into the Doomsday Game. These changes had subtly influenced him.
He still possessed the ambition to change his fate, but the idea was no longer superficial, ignorant, or shallow. He realized that the ambitions of true powerhouses are rooted deep within the heart, not shouted from the rooftops. So, as he prepared to spin, he did not cry out. Instead, maintaining his composure, he prayed silently in his heart.
He took a deep breath, braced himself, placed his palm on the center of the green wheel, and said firmly, "Spin!"
[Ding!]
The familiar sound of the wheel echoed. Luo Shan’s heart nearly stopped.
[Congratulations on drawing: Lucky Bracelet!]
A Lucky Bracelet? What was this for? Did it… improve one’s luck? Luo Shan hadn't yet grasped its function when he noticed a shift in Liao Yuanfeng’s expression. He realized that this silver-white bracelet, which had suddenly appeared in his hand, was likely a high-quality item.
Just as he was pondering this, a sharp, cold female voice drifted toward him.
"Luo Shan, is it? That Lucky Bracelet is of little use to you."
Luo Shan jolted and spun around to see the formidable Guan Ling walking slowly toward him. He was not swayed by her beauty; rather, he became instantly guarded. "What does Captain Guan mean by that?"
Guan Ling’s gaze fell upon the silver-white bracelet in his hand, her tone languid. "The effect of the Lucky Bracelet is this: when worn during a wheel spin, it allows you to eliminate one option from the wheel."
"Of course, a green-quality Lucky Bracelet only functions on green-quality wheels. Furthermore, after one hundred uses, the bracelet will be completely destroyed."
One hundred opportunities to remove an option from a green wheel... Honestly, the effect was exceptional. It might seem like just removing one option, but if used wisely, the potential to minimize losses was unimaginable. For instance, the purple wheel Wang Xueyan had prepared for Zhou Yiming—the most terrifying outcome was the Beast Tide. If they had possessed a purple-tier Lucky Bracelet at the time, they could have completely avoided it.
The same logic applied to green wheels. Some negative outcomes were unacceptable; eliminating them meant avoiding disaster. Moreover, it wasn't just about reducing losses. If a high-tier wheel had nine positive effects, removing the only negative one would effectively create a "perfect" wheel. It could also be used to improve the odds of landing a desired outcome if an unwanted option occupied a significant portion of the wheel. The value of such an item was self-evident.
However, Guan Ling was right. The bracelet was better suited for large factions with many members. For someone like Luo Shan, who only had three years of life left, he couldn't afford to waste it on a green wheel spin. Holding this bracelet was, for him, a total waste.
Luo Shan frowned deeply, but he quickly realized the implication. "Is Captain Guan looking to trade something for this?"
Guan Ling swept a glance over him, her tone uncompromising. "Not 'looking to.' I 'require' it. You have no right to choose."
With that, she raised her hand and snatched the silver-white bracelet from his grasp. Luo Shan’s expression shifted, fearing she was simply robbing him in public, but Guan Ling quickly flicked her wrist, tossing a square object into his hands.
"This is..." Luo Shan fiddled with the object, confused. "A speaker?"
"It’s called a BGM Speaker, a top-tier item," Guan Ling said, tucking the bracelet into her spatial storage. "Ever heard the saying: 'No one can defeat me while my BGM is playing'?"
"This speaker has a similar effect."
Luo Shan’s eyes widened, unable to believe she would give him such a heaven-defying item. Guan Ling added, "It’s not as exaggerated as you think. It’s only green quality, so it won’t make you invincible. It contains three tracks: 'Amazing Grace,' 'Ambush from Ten Sides,' and 'Going Home.'"
"'Amazing Grace' prevents beasts below level 5 from becoming hostile toward you. It’s similar to Beast Repellent Incense, but far more effective. 'Ambush from Ten Sides' grants you a 'Fierce Battle' state, enhancing your combat power. 'Going Home' weakens or removes certain negative effects while accelerating the recovery of your injuries, stamina, and mental state."
"For you, this is far more practical than the Lucky Bracelet."
Luo Shan’s face lit up with joy. The speaker was excellent for both offense and defense. He wasn't stupid, though—he knew the speaker’s value likely didn't match that of the Lucky Bracelet. But what could he do? He was simply not as strong as Guan Ling. If not for his affiliation with the Le Tian Club, she could have just taken it by force. In this world, the weak had no voice, and there was no such thing as "fairness" when dealing with the strong.
Having realized this, Luo Shan didn't quibble. Instead, he graciously thanked her. His attitude earned an approving look from Guan Ling, who remarked, "Good mentality."
The onlookers, having seen him draw such a good item and receive Guan Ling's praise, erupted in murmurs of envy. "He actually drew a Lucky Bracelet! His luck is insane!"
"Looking at it now, he actually profited by not trading his green wheel for Jiang Yi's Longevity Pill!"
"With that BGM speaker, his survival rate in the beast world just skyrocketed!"
As the crowd murmured, they glanced at Wu Xu, whose expression remained unreadable. Even Liao Yuanfeng was surprised that Luo Shan had pulled such a high-quality item. He turned to Jiang Yi and asked, "You’ve got three green wheels yourself. Want to strike while the iron is hot? I’ll guard you."
Wu Xu’s heart skipped a beat. It was one thing for Luo Shan to get lucky, but if Jiang Yi also pulled something good... that would be a massive loss of face for him. Still, he reasoned that Jiang Yi’s wheels were of trash quality, so the odds were low. He smiled at Jiang Yi. "Little brother Jiang Yi, want to spin now? I can guard you as well."
