“Then what is this?” Qian Qi stood on the boundless plain as the wild wind swept across her face, sending her little nest of hair flapping wildly.

An ominous premonition rose in her heart.

It was not nearly as frightening as she had imagined. On the endless grassland, warm sunlight spilled down in a faint halo. Whenever a strong wind passed through, the smooth golden-green grass rolled and surged like waves, filling the heart with tranquility and captivating the eye.
Deep within the plain stood a black forest filled with strange trees. The sunlight was blindingly bright, yet the moment it fell upon the forest, it seemed to be reflected away, leaving the interior shrouded in utter darkness. Pale, misty moisture spread through it bit by bit, making the forest mysterious enough to inspire both longing and hesitation.
After running for nearly ten minutes, Qian Qi arrived at the entrance to the black forest, panting heavily. From within came the faint, overlapping howls of magical beasts.
She silently swallowed.
She could not go straight in.
Qian Qi had no intention of entering a dangerous place without preparation, especially after learning that magical beasts lurked inside. Her eyes quickly swept over the surroundings before finally settling on a magical plant.
The Thorn Cloud Sunflower.
It had a pale, gentle color like a cloud, yet its shape resembled an extremely long, cone-shaped spike, with a razor-sharp tip capable of piercing the tough hides of passing E-rank monsters.
However, because its destructive power was limited and its sharpness was far inferior to the claws of other E-rank magical beasts, weapons made from Thorn Cloud Sunflowers were unpopular and sold very cheaply.
Qian Qi felt around in her pocket and pulled out a small knife for self-defense.
She dug into the soil around the base of the Thorn Cloud Sunflower and pulled out the entire plant. Then she used the knife to shave away its soft, dense roots. After trimming it neatly so that it would not hurt her hands, she turned and walked toward another magical plant.
The Venom Gourd.
Inside a string of reddish-brown little gourds was approximately ten milliliters of venom. When subjected to forceful pressure, they could spray a poisonous mist capable of poisoning humans into unconsciousness. If the venom was extracted directly and injected into the body, it could paralyze and incapacitate an E-rank magical beast with no poison resistance within three minutes.
A classmate at school grew Venom Gourds. Qian Qi had analyzed one before, so she knew all about them.

Qian Qi sliced open the tops of the gourds and poured the black venom over the tip of the Thorn Cloud Sunflower. Only after opening five little gourds did she finally muster the courage to enter the black forest.
The blue panel waited quietly for her. Once she had finished preparing, it turned around and shot deeper into the forest.
Qian Qi lifted her foot and stepped into the black forest’s domain. It was dark and damp here, and the dim light barely illuminated the narrow path beneath her feet. Listening to the roars of magical beasts, she deliberately softened her footsteps as she followed the blue panel.
After a nerve-racking stretch of stealth, the blue panel finally stopped.

Three thick arrows appeared on the panel, indicating a direction. Qian Qi approached and discovered a new magical plant that had never been recorded in Magical Botany.
【Peel it open. ↓】
Qian Qi stared at the magical plant covered in black spines, its only feature a single enormous face-like disk.

There was simply no place to begin.
She drew her small knife, gripping the black spines as she searched for a long while. At last, she found a crack. She wedged the giant black disk between two stones, placed the tip of the knife into the depression, then picked up a small rock and slammed it hard against the knife’s handle.
With a sharp crack, the black shell of the giant disk split open, revealing the writhing pink flesh inside. Following the system’s instructions, Qian Qi reluctantly reached her hand in and fumbled around until she extracted three brown fruits the size of candies.
After shaking the white slime from her hand, she activated her analysis skill on the fruits.
