10. The Brown Giant Ape
Ning Xuan didn’t know this person at all and was about to tell him to get lost when someone else spoke up. “Exactly. Romon’s psychic level has already reached B-rank. With his strength, he’ll definitely join the military in the future. He’s on a completely different level from you.”
“I heard from Ning Fei that you drove away the aunt who raised you. Ning Xuan, how can you be so heartless?” the person accused.
“Ning Xuan’s aunt? Isn’t that Ning Fei and Ning Chuchu’s mother?”
“Oh my god, did I hear that right? Chuchu treats her so well!”
“She’s almost eighteen and just now awakening her psychic powers, acting all high and mighty. But Chuchu awakened early at eight, and two years ago she already reached C-rank. Maybe she’ll be B-rank before she’s an adult. Has Ning Xuan lost her mind? She just offended such a powerful ally!”
“Romon dares to mock Ning Xuan because he knows she has fallen out with Ning Fei’s family, right?”
Ning Xuan didn’t even get a chance to speak. As soon as Romon and his lackey finished talking, the gathering crowd started vehemently blaming her.
Hutao grabbed Ning Xuan’s hand, trying to pull her away. Seeing Ning Xuan about to say something, she leaned close and whispered, “Don’t speak just yet. I’ve heard a rumor—Ning Chuchu is coming back today! If you really kicked out her mother and sister, you’d better think about how to apologize.”
“Ah, look! The giant ape! There’s someone sitting on its shoulder—isn’t that Chuchu?” someone from the crowd exclaimed.
Following the pointing finger, everyone saw a three-meter-tall brown giant ape striding toward them, the ground trembling beneath its heavy steps. Within mere moments, the massive creature approached.
Just from a distance, people could feel the overwhelming pressure. As it came closer, the imposing presence of this giant beast intensified. Suddenly, the ape knelt on one knee, extending its right arm forward. The girl who had been sitting on its shoulder stepped down, using its arm and palm as a stepping stone. Once she landed, the ape rose, and with a wave of psychic energy, transformed into a young man in his early twenties.
“Wow, a full psychic type! Isn’t that only achievable after reaching 3S rank?”
“He’s still so young; he can’t be 3S rank yet!”
“The high-level pressure isn’t that intense!” someone muttered quietly.
“Shut up!” a companion hushed them.
“Chuchu, you’re back. This is your contractor?” Romon looked at Ning Chuchu with obvious ingratiation.
“Sis, I’m back!” Ning Chuchu ignored Romon and greeted Ning Xuan with a calm expression.
All eyes turned to Ning Xuan. She smiled faintly and said, “Oh, the vampire has returned!”
“How dare you! My contractor lives in your house to take care of you, an ordinary person. It’s your honor! Since she was eight, my father has gifted her two properties on planets A110 and B119 to care for you. She has been stuck on this resource-poor D-rank planet, which has hindered her cultivation. And you don’t appreciate it!” The man who had transformed from the ape shouted angrily.
“I have properties left by my parents and receive orphan subsidies from the Federation. I don’t need her care. As for what you said, she clearly has better places to live but insists on staying by my side. Guess why?”
“It’s because my contractor has a kind heart. Apologize to her immediately!” The man held his head high with pride.
“Vampire, mind your dog!” Ning Xuan, disgusted, refused to waste words on such people and looked coldly at Ning Chuchu.
Hutao shrank back, trembling. Forgive her for not standing by today; Ning Xuan’s words were too harsh. Ning Chuchu’s expression darkened, looking ready to change at any moment.
“Sis Xuan, aunt treated me like her own flesh and blood. Her last words were to tell us to take good care of you. So no matter how you treat me, I won’t give up on you!” Ning Chuchu’s words sounded like a warning in Ning Xuan’s ears: no matter what, she wouldn’t let her go.
“Wu Di, bring my sister over. We need to find a private place to talk!” Ning Chuchu ordered the man beside her.
The man named Wu Di twisted his wrist and said, “At your command, mistress!”
Seeing Wu Di approaching her, Ning Xuan immediately stepped back and ran.
“Trying to run? Your mouth is so sharp—why run now?” Wu Di took two leisurely steps forward and gave chase. The crowd exchanged glances, neither stepping forward to stop nor leaving. For some reason, they silently watched.
“Hey, what do you think you’re doing? This is a school. If Ning Xuan doesn’t want to go, how can you forcibly abduct her?” Hutao stifled her fear and bravely shouted.
“This is a private matter between sisters. Outsiders, don’t interfere!” Ning Chuchu coldly surveyed the crowd, forcing back the restless onlookers.
Wu Di reached out to grab Ning Xuan, who dodged sideways. They circled, one trying to catch while the other evaded. Ning Xuan quickly realized this body was frail; her muscles and bones refused to obey fully. She could only use less than a tenth of her usual agility and footwork.
Even so, Ning Xuan’s performance astonished the other students.
“Is that really Ning Xuan? Is her body really that agile?” someone whispered.
“I thought she was ordinary. How can she withstand so many moves from a high-level spirit controller?”
“I heard she awakened; her physique must have improved!”
“That guy clearly hesitates to hurt her. Just watch—she won’t hold out for long!”
The murmurs only darkened Ning Chuchu’s face further. She stepped forward, placed her right hand on her forehead, and unleashed psychic energy to strike Ning Xuan’s spirit sea.
Already exhausted, Ning Xuan felt a stabbing pain like needles. Darkness closed in on her vision—this was her spirit sea’s defense mechanism, signaling fainting.
Biting her lip hard to stay conscious through the pain, Ning Xuan knew she couldn’t lose consciousness. If Ning Chuchu took her away now, this time she might really be drained dry.
Just as her head throbbed and eyelids grew heavy, ready to collapse, someone caught her faltering body. A gentle energy flowed through her back into her body, instantly lightening her fatigue.
“Ah! It’s Major General Chen Nan, the one who has repeatedly distinguished himself on the A-rank beast battlefield. I’m not mistaken, right?”
“Wow, he’s so handsome, even more than in the promotional videos!”
