No one knew how much time had passed before Lu Meng slowly opened her eyes.
For a moment, she was dazed, thinking she was still in that field of ruins.
Was that a mental sea?
How could anyone’s mental sea be a field of ruins?
As the thought crossed her mind, she instinctively looked toward Wen Er on the bed—and was startled by what she saw.
His face was flushed crimson, and his breathing was rapid, strikingly similar to Kesen’s reaction.
She hurriedly removed the hand she had placed on his forehead, only to find her palm damp as well.
What was happening?
Unable to resist, she patted Wen Er’s cheek. It was burning hot!
She immediately called out anxiously, “Wen Er! Wen Er!”
Just as she was wondering whether to call the medical instructor, Wen Er opened his eyes.
His gaze still shimmered with moisture, as though he had been lost in a sensual dream and could not yet distinguish reality from illusion.
Lu Meng was overjoyed. “Wen Er! You’re awake!”
His eyes gradually cleared. With a sudden start, he sat up. “Just now, I…”
“Your face was so red just now,” Lu Meng said, unable to hold back. “I thought something had happened to you. You scared me to death!”
At that, Wen Er’s face grew even redder, spreading all the way down his neck.
What was going on? His body’s reaction was far too strange…
Seeing that he remained silent while his face grew redder and redder, Lu Meng began to worry. “Wen Er, what’s wrong? Are you all right? Did something go wrong with the guidance I gave you? I’ll call Director Marta Xiang over to take a look…”

Before she could finish, Wen Er hurriedly caught her by the arm. “No need.”
He glanced at her, then shifted his eyes away with a faint tremble. “I’m fine.”
Looking at him in his current state, Lu Meng was not entirely convinced. “Really?”
Wen Er closed his eyes and nodded. “Really!”
Hearing him say that, Lu Meng had no choice but to abandon the idea of calling Director Marta Xiang.
She went to fetch a disposable wet wipe and handed it to him. “Wipe your sweat first.”
Wen Er took it.
Lu Meng poured him a glass of water as well. “How do you feel?”
The hand holding the glass trembled slightly. Not quite certain what she was asking, Wen Er said, “What?”
“I mean, how did it feel when I guided you? Was it very painful?”
He had been sweating profusely and looked as though he had been suffering terribly.
Wen Er tightened his grip around the glass, unsure how to answer.
Lu Meng leaned closer. “Was it? Why aren’t you saying anything?”
Wen Er was startled. A trace of panic appeared in his eyes as he looked at her.
His usually distant eyes were slightly moist at that moment, making him look remarkably like a pitiful little puppy.
Lu Meng could not help feeling her heartbeat quicken.
Wen Er closed his eyes for a moment, seemingly embarrassed. “It wasn’t painful.”
Lu Meng came back to herself, feeling guilty over her racing heart. She let out two awkward little laughs. “As long as it wasn’t painful. As long as it wasn’t.”

Then she remembered something and hurriedly said, “Oh, it’s almost noon. Let’s go get something to eat!”
Wen Er quickly agreed. “All right.”
As he spoke, he rose to his feet.
Lu Meng had just begun to leave when she suddenly stopped, remembering something.
When Wen Er saw her pause, he could not help asking, “What is it?”
“Director Xiang said an intelligent robot would deliver lunch around noon. I should let her know.”
As she spoke, she sent Director Marta Xiang a message.
[Director Xiang, I’d like to go out for lunch. Can the delivery be canceled?]
Director Xiang replied almost immediately.
[You’re going with Major General Wen Er, aren’t you?]
Lu Meng glanced at Wen Er, then looked away before he could notice.
[Yes… How did you know?]
Marta replied: [The General’s side told me. Go ahead—the delivery can be canceled.]
Lu Meng immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
[Great!]
