Chapter Thirty-Three: It’s So Hot, and My Face Is Burning Red

Lu Meng hurriedly looked away. “Um, the guidance session is about to begin. We should hurry back! If we’re late, Director Xiang will be angry…”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and walked ahead, fanning herself with her hand.
So hot, so hot!
Why had it suddenly become so hot?
Wen Er was momentarily stunned, then followed after her and slipped the items into her palm.
Lu Meng’s steps faltered. She glanced at Wen Er beside her, then carefully opened her hand.
The teleportation chip lay quietly in her palm.
She silently clenched her fingers, then inserted the chip into her optical computer.
…
Apart from Lu Meng herself, no one else could see the vines formed by her supernatural ability.
Everyone assumed she simply could not use her mental powers, so no one grew suspicious.
After the afternoon guidance session ended, Lu Meng had just reached for a wet towel to hand to the sentinel when Wen Er beat her to it.
She froze for a moment. When she tried to pour the sentinel a glass of water, Wen Er stopped her.
“Get some rest. I’ll do it.”
The sentinel took the water Wen Er offered, trembling like a sieve. He barely managed two sips before fleeing.
Marta shook her head, teasing amusement in her voice.
“Your shift is over. Go home and rest. Just look how worried Major General Wen Er is about you~”
Lu Meng and Wen Er exchanged a glance, then both bashfully looked away.
“You two aren’t leaving? Then I’ll be off first.”
Seeing them like this, Marta could not help clicking her tongue inwardly twice.
Young people~
“Send me a message on your optical computer if anything comes up~”
Lu Meng quickly replied, “All right.”

After Marta left, only the two of them remained in the guidance room.
Lu Meng cleared her throat. “Well, shall we go too?”
Wen Er said, “All right.”
They stepped outside, and following Marta’s instructions, Lu Meng locked the door to the guidance room.
The two of them walked out of the building.
The atmosphere felt strange.
Lu Meng glanced at Wen Er and decided that things could not go on like this.
The way they interacted with each other had become rather awkward.
With that thought, she spoke up. “Where are you going later?”
Wen Er thought for a moment, then asked in return, “What about you?”
“Me?”
Lu Meng considered it, then smiled. “Of course I’m going to eat first!”
Then she asked, “Are you coming?”
A smile touched the corners of Wen Er’s lips. “Yes.”
Something occurred to Lu Meng, and her expression turned hesitant.
“But the cafeteria we went to at noon was too crowded. Can we go to the one we visited last time?”
Seeing her aggrieved little face, the amusement in Wen Er’s eyes deepened.
He had no particular preference. He would go wherever she wanted.
“All right.”
Lu Meng happily jumped up. “Yay!”
“Then let’s go, let’s go! I’m starving~”

…
That evening.
The Major General’s apartment.
“How were the test results?”
Saier had just finished bathing and emerged with a towel wrapped around him.
On the other end, Elter looked at the report in his hands and could not help sighing.
“No decrease was detected in the sentinel’s contamination level.”
Saier poured himself a glass of water and asked as he drank, “Then she has no mental powers?”
“This is only the first day. We can’t draw that conclusion yet. Let’s observe her for a while longer.”
Saier raised his brows slightly. “Very well. Report to me when you have the results.”
Elter acknowledged him, then hesitated before asking, “Major General, if she truly has no mental powers, how will you deal with her?”
The fingers holding the glass tapped lightly against its side.
“The military district does not support idle people. If she has no value, she can only leave.”
Once she left the military district, as an ordinary person, she would find herself at the very bottom of the entire empire.
The lowest level—chaotic, and a place no one was willing to govern.
And she was only a young girl…
“Yes, Major General.”
Elter could not help sighing inwardly. There was nothing he could do but pray that God would protect her.
