Chapter Fifty: A Temper Like a Pufferfish
"Alright!"
Luna turned to Ace with a smirk. "I've already added you. Satisfied now?"
Ace raised an eyebrow. "Barely."
Luna was speechless. Why did this sentinel always speak in such an irritating way?
She couldn't help but retort, "Barely? Then why did you insist I add you? I really don’t understand what you’re trying to do!"
Suddenly, she clutched her chest, eyes wide with alarm. "You don’t mean you have feelings for me, do you?"
"You're overthinking it."
Ace’s gaze flickered before he sneered mockingly, "What would I possibly see in you?"
Luna bristled at his words. "How could you say that? Yesterday, you clearly..."
Her face flushed, and she trailed off, unable to voice the rest.
Ace’s ears reddened too, but he cleared his throat and pressed on, "Clearly what?"
Luna shot him a glare and exhaled sharply, "Nothing."
Ace watched her storm ahead, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Such a feisty little pufferfish.
Luna slammed the door shut. She knew he could still get in, but she couldn’t help herself.
Ace opened the door and stepped inside.
"Small in stature, but quite fiery."
Luna sat on the couch, snorting coldly, refusing to acknowledge him.
Ace settled beside her on the sofa.
The moment he sat down, it was as if some trigger was pulled.
Luna suddenly recalled yesterday, how they had been on this very sofa…
She jumped up abruptly and hurried to the kitchen for a glass of water.
Ace saw her reaction and knew exactly what she was thinking. His mind involuntarily wandered back to last night—the softness, the unbearable sobbing, the trembling body.
His throat suddenly felt parched.
He stood quickly. "Uh, I’ve got some things to handle. I’ll be going now."
Luna didn’t dare look back. "Mm-hmm."
Once Ace left, she let out a deep sigh of relief.
She collapsed onto the soft bed in her room.
Just then, a message from Wren popped up.
[Are you awake yet?]
Luna turned over and replied.
[I’m up. Can you really send messages during a mission?]
Could it be dangerous?
Wren had just finished a battle, his body covered in wounds, yet he hadn’t treated them immediately. Instead, he messaged her first.
Seeing her reply brought a flicker of joy to his eyes.
But when he read her words, his gaze faltered slightly.
[Got some free time now. Are you... upset?]
Did she dislike receiving his messages?
Luna completely misunderstood his meaning and sighed. Not just upset—she was downright distressed!
But she certainly couldn’t tell him that.
[No, I’m fine. Are you in danger?]
Seeing she didn’t seem unhappy, Wren relaxed a bit.
[Not really.]
Luna: [That’s good. Stay safe!]
She hesitated for a moment, then finally asked,
[When will you be back?]
Upon receiving the message, Wren’s eyes softened, warmth blooming in his heart.
He couldn’t help but wonder, Was she missing me?
[Probably in about half a month.]
That long?
Luna felt a pang of disappointment but said nothing.
[Take care. I’m waiting for you to come back so I can treat you to a meal.]
[Okay.]
Wren put away his lightpad as a mental signal from the team suddenly came through.
"Captain! We’ve found something strange!"
Ignoring his wounds, Wren’s gaze sharpened. "Let’s go check it out!"
