Chapter 41: Terrifying Mutation
The moment the sound of his parents crying echoed from outside the door, Cheng Fan knew the situation was turning critical.
That terrifying entity, which had long been plotting to kill him, was seemingly resorting to any means necessary.
The adversary had conjured up a group of ferocious thugs and was currently beating and torturing Cheng Fan's parents right outside the doorway, attempting to trick Cheng Fan into opening the door.
Fortunately, Cheng Fan had seen through the truth early on. He knew the scene outside was entirely fake; neither the brutal thugs nor the so-called parents were real. Though it had nearly broken his psychological defense, it ultimately failed to breach it.
Cheng Fan's countermeasure was simple:
He neither checked the peephole to observe the scene nor made any response at all, but instead covered his ears the very second he heard his parents' cries.
10 minutes later......
"Fo Qi, is this the spirit you spoke of?" one of the seven cultivators suddenly asked Fo Qi in a deep voice.
After listening to Xiang Yun's reply, Kong An expressed immense astonishment. He had initially thought the other party was just a half-baked, part-time spirit chef, but he never expected him to possess such profound and genuine research into culinary arts.
However, as luck would have it, that very bone happened to be buried within a mountain range. After his true form was destroyed, this bone grew out again, right beneath that very true form, and was sealed away—a truly vexing affair.
"You didn't know?" Li Dongze gave a contemptuous pinch to Xu Shijuan's sharp chin, his gaze turning somewhat chilling.
However, the moment the screams of Haotian and Duobao Daoren rang out, their souls had already been pulverized into dust amidst the chaotic spiritual storm, vanishing completely.
"What the fuck, are you trying to summon demons against me?!" Qing Wei ignored the charging workers entirely, spun around to grab Sun Hao—who was still tussling with Brother Liang—and knocked him flat on his back with two punches.
With words following the law of command, Yang Fan let out a low shout. Inside the barrier, the towering pillar of light erupting from the pentagram before Miao Dou suddenly reversed direction, transforming into a blue dragon that lunged fiercely at Miao Dou with open claws and bared fangs.
The slovenly Daoist priest lectured them, saying, "Legend has it that during the Primordial Era, there was no fire upon this earth. Humans ate hair and drank blood, surviving on raw meat, wild fruits, and vegetation."
Chu Fei did not get up to see them off. Instead, lying in bed as he listened to the sports car's engine rapidly fade away into the distance, a peculiar curve formed at the corner of his mouth. He knew that Qi Hong was genuinely advising him to leave, but he simply did not care—just as he cared nothing for the retaliation of Yang Zhiwei and his son, nor did he care about Cai Jiulai coming after him.
Seeing Ouyang Zijun and his wife come to visit him together, Huo Jiasheng was quite surprised and hurriedly propped himself up to sit.
Li Lingfeng was a direct disciple of the Demon Emperor and the current Crown Prince of the demon race. Having also earned the martial title "Heavenly Mysterious Venerable" in his early years, he was recognized by the most people, and thus the crowd surrounding him was the largest.
Bo Yuhan intended to return to Qiao Yang's side and had no desire to entangle himself further with Caitlin. With a slight nod in acknowledgment, he prepared to leave.
If Tang Shan had simply left at that point, there likely would have been no subsequent story. Yet precisely as he was leaving, he noticed that at the far end of the two-story dormitory building, a door on the first floor was ajar. Since it was open, it was very likely someone was staying there.
Footsteps approached from afar, causing Chi Shanshan's heart to leap straight into her throat. She froze in place, unable to move an inch.
Upon hearing Huo Shengzhi's words, Ouyang Zijun turned pale as death, stumbled back a few steps, and collapsed heavily into a chair, staring at the operating room doors with overwhelming regret.
"It's so late, let's not disturb the kind-hearted elder Wuhe." After a moment of thought, Lin Qiu walked toward the path on the right.
The Heaven-Sealing Mirror that had fallen to the ground once again erupted with boundless light, rising slowly from the earth and stopping three feet above Old Monster Youquan's head. Its mirror surface remained facing downward, though it no longer cast any mystical arts, merely spinning lazily above his crown.
Wu Lian'er's physical stamina was notoriously poor, and Yunheng's campus was much larger than other schools. Having jogged all the way from the school gates to the basketball court, by the time she reached Wu Dao, Wu Lian'er was already so exhausted that she had to press her hands against her knees, unable to stand back up straight.
Hearing the words of Diaochan's father, Chen Dan turned around abruptly to go find Diaochan, but was grabbed by the hand by Diaochan's younger sister, Diao Juan.
When Jingxia Leopard turned to look at him, A Ku quickly straightened his expression, awaiting Jingxia Leopard's inquiry.
Instantly, within Lu Bu's body, it felt as though a clear light had settled across a vast river and sea; all at once, the winds grew calm and the clouds gentle, banishing the tumultuous, wave-churning chaos that had just filled him.
Because everyone knew very well that while doing business might yield profits, the possibility of losing money was equally real—in fact, the odds of taking a loss were far greater than the chances of making a gain.
Furthermore, he had thoroughly mended his ways and bid farewell to everything in his past! He no longer acted like that, so how could he possibly endure Zhang Liao's slander?
His thick chest, broad shoulders, and narrow waist—including the sharp lines of his face and a pair of majestic, spirited eyes beneath dense eyebrows—were entirely flawless, radiating pure, explosive masculinity.
In a moment, Yuan Shao's troops would undoubtedly be blasted into utter disorder, blown to smithereens, left with not even a corpse remaining, wailing like ghosts and howling like wolves, crying to their fathers and mothers, and suffering a total, front-line collapse.
"All people are equal. As long as there is sufficient value driven by incentives, anyone within the organization can be hired to do work," the Ninth Monarch replied.
They had lived in the underground city for over a dozen years, and ever since entering it, they had never ventured back out again, living like golden-haired canaries raised inside a birdcage.
Following the incident with Liu Shaolin, Zhao Chongning lost all desire to continue discussing matters with the other ministers.
How very strange! Baili Nuyun wondered inwardly in astonishment. That troop of figures in white was still a considerable distance away, yet their singing sounded as clear as if it were right beside her ears.
Fortunately, the Daoist nun possessed considerable patience. After pacing back and forth countless times, Xiong Bin finally showed a sliver of reaction, twitching his lips minimally and relaxing his eyelids slightly, though he still failed to open them. Zhen Qi muttered to herself, wondering why he still couldn't wake up, and pondered what on earth Shi Feng was plotting by laying such a trap.
Seeing Tang Shu rush upstairs, Cheng Hao finally relaxed. It seemed she hadn't lied about this; she really had come here to participate in a blind date event. As long as he kept a close eye on her this week, she shouldn't be able to stir up any trouble.
When Gu Senge slowly drifted back to consciousness, night had already fallen. She opened her eyes in a hazy daze, looking around blankly as if she hadn't fully processed her surroundings, then blinked again in an attempt to clear her mind.
