Volume 1, Chapter 24: Attribute Fruit

The blue treasure chest was made of neither stone nor wood, but rather of some kind of blue metal.
As for what sort of metal it was, Lin Yifan had no idea.
Still, the material of the chest was unimportant. What mattered was what lay inside.
After taking a deep breath, Lin Yifan opened the treasure chest without hesitation.
Blue Treasure Chest, open!
“Talent activated. Triple critical reward obtained!”
[Beginner Mystic Spirit Fruit] ×3
[Random Attribute Spirit Crystal] ×6
[Radiant Stone] ×9
[Medium Iron Ingot] ×30
[Compressed Biscuit] ×15
When the chest opened, he found it crammed full of items.
As Lin Yifan examined the list of rewards, he realized that he was unfamiliar with more than half of them.
For instance, he had never even heard of the [Beginner Mystic Spirit Fruit].
But when he held the three milky-white fruits in his hands—each roughly the size of a fist and shaped somewhat like a peach—his eyes widened.
[Beginner Mystic Spirit Fruit]
Effect: Random attribute points +2
(Item description: A fruit that grows in unique regions and can strengthen the body. Rare, uncommon, and extraordinarily precious. Each person may consume no more than three per day. Eating more will not grant additional points.)
It could actually increase his attribute points!
When he had first arrived in this world, the Survival Manual had mentioned that there were things capable of enhancing one’s vitality.
But since no one had ever obtained such an item, Lin Yifan had always remained skeptical.
He had never expected that the blue treasure chest gifted to him would contain something capable of strengthening his life force.
Could this world really offer him a chance to become a Saiyan?
If that was true, it was utterly insane!
Yet even if it was insane, it was an irresistible kind of insanity.
After all, who did not want to become stronger?
Who did not want to live longer?
Lin Yifan certainly did.
Without hesitation, he took a bite of one of the fruits. Its sweet, refreshing juice instantly filled his mouth.
The flavor resembled passion fruit, while the flesh was incredibly delicate, without the slightest trace of pulp or fiber.
At first, Lin Yifan had intended to consume it like a medicinal pill, but the exquisite taste made him savor it despite himself.
About ten minutes later, all three fruits had disappeared into his stomach. He licked the lingering juice from his lips, then eagerly opened his personal information.
Name: Lin Yifan

Age: 23
Life Tier: Sub-Healthy Human
Talent: [Random Buff, One Draw a Day!]
[You may draw once per day and obtain buffs with various effects. The draw refreshes at midnight. Are you blessed by fortune or cursed by bad luck? That depends on your face!]
Today’s Buff: Critical Reward
[Critical Reward: Anything gained today may trigger a critical effect, increasing the amount obtained by one or several times. The minimum is 1.5 times, and the maximum is 10 times.]
Strength: 8
Agility: 10
Vitality: 7
Intelligence: 9
Remaining Attribute Points: 6 (Assignable at will)
Lin Yifan gazed at the additional attribute points, delight filling his face.
His personal attributes were nothing impressive. After all, back on Earth, he had been an overworked office drone, laboring from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon and often working overtime, bringing his total hours to twelve a day.
He had no time to exercise. Thus, in less than two years after entering the workforce, his once-healthy body had deteriorated into a sub-healthy state.
The reason he had been able to kill the king cobra and the wild wolves over the past two days was that, as a child, he had idolized the heroes of martial-arts novels and deliberately studied martial arts for a time.
However, he had been an orphan and lacked the means for systematic training. He had merely taught himself basic moves found online or copied the elderly men practicing tai chi in the park.
He had no idea whether any of it had been done correctly.
In any case, he had treated it as exercise and practiced several routines every day. Whatever else could be said, he certainly looked the part once he assumed a stance.
His reflexes were also considerably sharper than those of an ordinary person. Otherwise, he could never have evaded the wild wolf’s attack, much less taken the opportunity to kill it in return.
Yet twenty years of exercise had still been no match for two years of office life. He had even begun to wonder whether he would make it past fifty living that way.
Now, he had hope of increasing his vitality. To him, it was as though Heaven itself had finally opened its eyes.
After thinking it over carefully, Lin Yifan decided how to distribute the points.
First, he ruled out Intelligence. He felt that his current intellect was not yet disastrously low and should be sufficient for survival. There was no need to enhance it for the time being.
Of the remaining three attributes—Strength, Agility, and Vitality—Vitality was the lowest. He also genuinely felt exhausted after spending an entire day searching for supplies.
If his stamina could not keep up, what use were strength and agility?
Thus, Lin Yifan added three points to Vitality without hesitation.
At once, he sensed a warm current appear out of nowhere in the region of his lower abdomen, then surge throughout his body, traveling through what might have been his blood vessels or meridians.
A moment later, the warmth gradually dispersed, and the fatigue brought on by a full day’s labor vanished along with it.
He felt refreshed and clear-headed. Even his breathing had become smoother.
Overjoyed, he nearly assigned his remaining three points to Vitality as well.
But in the end, he restrained himself.
Thinking carefully about the battles of the past two days, he realized that Strength was secondary. Agility, however, had to be high enough.
There was still a wolf pack nearby. Wolves were small beasts whose primary attacks relied on swift charges, biting, and pouncing.

Therefore, when dealing with wild wolves, the most important thing was being able to evade their attacks.
That meant his speed had to be fast enough.
With that in mind, he added two more points to Agility, raising it from 10 to 12.
He did not feel much of a difference from the increase in Agility.
His body merely seemed a little lighter. When he stood up and tested it, he discovered that, at the very least, his jumping ability had improved considerably.
The result did not particularly surprise Lin Yifan, but he was satisfied nonetheless.
He assigned the final point to Strength.
With that attribute increased, Strength had become his weakest stat. Adding one point at least brought it level with Intelligence.
The enhancement to Strength was faintly perceptible.
He felt a slight itch and warmth in his muscles, but the sensation lasted only a moment before vanishing.
Perhaps his strength had increased a little.
Lin Yifan was not certain, but since his body had reacted, there had to have been some improvement.
Once again, he summoned his personal attributes.
Name: Lin Yifan
Age: 23
Life Tier: Healthy Human
Talent: [Random Buff, One Draw a Day!]
[Omitted. Surely there is no need to explain it again, right?]
Today’s Buff: Critical Reward
[Critical Reward: ...Also omitted. Please understand it for yourself!]
Strength: 9
Agility: 12
Vitality: 10
Intelligence: 9
Remaining Attribute Points: 0
(Evaluation: Congratulations! You have finally become a healthy human worthy of receiving an evaluation. You are no longer a pathetic weakling too feeble even to qualify for one.)
Lin Yifan stared at the evaluation that had suddenly appeared, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
What did it mean, “pathetic weakling”?
He was someone who had killed a king cobra and wild wolves, after all. In what way was he weak?
That mouth was far too vicious!
