Clatter.
After closing the door at home, Zhang Su shook the keys in his hand with a pleased expression. “Brother Li’s whole family lives together, so there must be some supplies at his place. If... if there’s no one home, we shouldn’t waste them.”
It wasn’t that he hoped the entire Li family was wiped out, but given the current situation, that seemed to be the case...
Zheng Xinyu looked at the blood-stained keys with a heavy heart. Suddenly, her expression changed as she pointed to her bedroom. “I forgot earlier—I have wet wipes in there. Lots of wet wipes!”
“Wet wipes?” Zhang Su placed the keys on the shoe cabinet and looked at Zheng Xinyu. “Wet wipes are great—they can completely replace water for cleaning the body. How did we forget about them before?”
Speaking as he was, he didn’t hesitate to head toward Zheng Xinyu’s bedroom.
“I’m trying to stay in my room for a whole month without any outside supplies, so for personal hygiene, I can only rely on wet wipes. I bought quite a few, including alcohol disinfectant wipes. They’re all piled up and I forgot to open them!”
Zheng Xinyu walked briskly to keep up with Zhang Su. The thought of finally being able to maintain personal hygiene without using water comforted her greatly.
People can endure hardship, but they don’t seek out suffering; instead, they constantly look for ways to alleviate discomfort.
Soon, the two of them unpacked the delivery boxes. Just as Zheng Xinyu said, there were twenty large packs of regular wet wipes, each containing eighty sheets, plus three hundred alcohol wipes!
“Hahaha...”
Zhang Su couldn’t help but laugh out loud. He immediately opened a pack and pulled out a sheet to wipe the blood off his chin and neck.
Zheng Xinyu was delighted too. In these difficult times, she wished she could contribute more, and now she was. Happily, she took a wipe and helped Zhang Su clean the remaining blood stains.
After wiping off the blood, Zhang Su even used an alcohol wipe to clean again—whether it was effective or not, it was at least a psychological comfort.
They used about ten wipes in total, that’s sixteen hundred sheets—enough to last a long time.
“I’m going to fill some water.”
Saying this, Zhang Su headed for the bathroom. He tossed a blood-stained short-sleeved T-shirt into the trash bin. It had been contaminated by zombie blood and was useless without water to wash it. He had plenty of clothes at home, so no worries about what to wear. Besides, he couldn’t take these clothes if he left.
The moment Zhang Su disappeared from Zheng Xinyu’s sight and entered the bathroom, a message appeared in his mind.
[Cooperated with others to kill zombies outside the door within one day. Difficulty: C. Completed in 01:33:25.]
“So that’s why it only appears when no one’s watching.”
Zhang Su had wondered why there had been no progress on the challenge before, but with so many things to handle, he hadn’t paid much attention.

“Well, if...”
He wanted to test his guess and tried to leave the bathroom but found himself stuck in place, locked inside a strange space.
“Looks like I was overthinking.”
At that moment, the previous message faded, replaced by a new line of text:
[Reward: Insight Tags *20]
“Insight Tags?”
The number twenty was easy to understand—it probably meant he could use this special ability twenty times. But what exactly were Insight Tags?
“Boss, explain this, how do I use these Insight Tags?”
Zhang Su mentally pleaded like a desperate student. Unfortunately, the screen shifted, the message vanished, and only [Insight Tags 0/20] appeared in his mind.
As always, there was no further response, and he exited the time pause, returning to normal.
“A bit vague, this Insight Tags thing... hmm...”
While Zhang Su stood puzzled in the bathroom, two of his employees were cowering inside the dark Yilewen convenience store, trembling.
In the pitch-black store, Wu Lue and a young woman hid beneath the counter, not daring to breathe loudly.
Just as Zhang Su had expected, Zhao Xue, who replaced Wu Lue on the day shift, arrived early as usual. But unlike her usual serene smile greeting the day’s work, today Zhao Xue limped into the store with a terrified look, missing one shoe.
Wu Lue, who had dozed off, was startled awake by the sudden noise. He never imagined that after a little rest from exhaustion, the world outside would be turned upside down...
Though physically weak, Wu Lue was sharp-minded. Seeing zombies violently attacking and biting people on the street, he immediately pulled down the shutter. This convenience store, which never closed even during New Year, had finally shut its doors.
“Xue, are you alright?”
Zhao Xue, with one bare foot, was curled up in a corner clutching her ankle, quietly sobbing with hollow eyes. These past hours felt like half a century—interrupted by constant car crashes, heart-wrenching screams, and desperate cries for help that battered her soul.
She looked up at the shadowy figure of Wu Lue and weakly asked, “Is... is the internet back?”
“No...”
Wu Lue answered with a sigh.

“Waa... I should have just run straight home. I shouldn’t have come to the store. My parents, waa...”
Thinking of this, Zhao Xue began to sob quietly again.
“Luckily you didn’t do that, or you’d be dead on the way...”
Wu Lue sighed deeply. “When the network briefly came back before, I tried calling the police—it didn’t go through. I think things outside are really bad.”
“Xiao Wu, what exactly are those man-eating monsters?”
Zhao Xue sniffled and asked softly.
“What else could they be? The zombies from TV shows. Damn, no wonder zombie-themed shows have been increasing over the years—it was all foreshadowing, so when the zombie virus actually breaks out, people won’t be completely clueless.”
Wu Lue’s wild theory didn’t help much—obviously, no one had been alerted by all those zombie dramas.
Zhao Xue’s terrible mood was briefly stopped by Wu Lue’s bizarre logic. She stopped sobbing for a moment, terrified, “Could this be a terrorist attack from another country?”
“Don’t know...” Wu Lue licked his lips. “Whatever the cause, we need to find a way to protect ourselves. Xue, how’s your foot? Can you walk?”
Zhao Xue rubbed her swollen ankle and said, “It hurts whenever I touch it, pretty badly swollen.”
Thick socks protected her soles from injury, but the sprain was severe.
Wu Lue ran his messy hair through his fingers in frustration. “If only Brother Su was here. He knows a lot about joint injuries. He helped me fix my stiff neck last time...”
“Brother Su...”
Hearing Wu Lue mention Zhang Su, Zhao Xue pursed her lips softly, picturing his tall figure always wearing a smile, her eyes reddening.
“Right, I remember now! Brother Su has some bruise medicine in the warehouse. I’ll go get it!”
Without waiting for Zhao Xue’s reply, Wu Lue crouched and slowly headed toward the warehouse, clutching a frying pan that gave him a little sense of security.
