Of course, when it comes to mech pilots at this level, distinctions still depend on individual strength. Sometimes, even among senior or intermediate mech pilots, the gap in ability can be vast. Some manage to reach this rank through their own merit, while others can only attain it and no further—that’s a fundamental difference.

Moreover, those mech pilots who are officially enlisted don’t represent the entire interstellar mech pilot community. There are countless independent, “wild” mech pilots outside any formal roster. Some simply don’t want to invest the time, while others aren’t keen on participating in these official evaluations. They care more about researching what fascinates them, creating the mechs of their dreams—machines that will earn them a place in history.

Among these masters, there’s no need for flimsy certification to prove their skill. Many seek them out to custom-build mechs, and the cost of crafting a specialized mech often runs into astronomical sums. When you already possess wealth and status, why waste time joining an organization just to prove yourself with certifications?

Naturally, none of this falls within the scope of the current lessons. Jiang Hui thought it was quite a privilege to encounter such an intermediate mech pilot in daily life and receive instruction from them. Attending this event was truly worthwhile.

This pilot’s lecture took a different approach from the previous one, which focused on the origins of mech development. This instructor spoke about the successive mechanical revolutions since the birth of mechs and how each event drove breakthroughs in mech technology.

It turned out that the massive combinational mechs produced by the Dongbo Group were products of the most recent mech revolution. Since their inception, they have resolved numerous crises on interstellar battlefields and achieved significant advances in assault warfare.

Beyond these giant combinational mechs, there exists an array of mech types: animal-inspired mechs, battlefield-specialized units, heavy mechs, auxiliary light armor, fully armed heavy mechs, linked armor suits, classic standard models, and countless other classifications—too many to enumerate.

Hearing about these myriad categories left Jiang Hui dazzled. It felt as if one could spend a lifetime studying mech types alone.

The intermediate pilot’s lecture was lengthy and captivated the audience, much more engaging than the previous one.

The climax of the hands-on workshop came last, taught by a B-level mech pilot from Wanhe Intermediate Academy. The supporting demonstration tool was a simple, scaled-down standard mech.

At this point, the participants all perked up, focusing intently, for this was the main reason they had come.

The instructor began to methodically dismantle the miniature mech, scaled down to a 1:1 ratio. Large panels of metal on the back, down to tiny joints at the fingertips—each part was carefully and swiftly removed without the slightest damage, then neatly arranged on the workbench.

Only then did Jiang Hui understand why the organizers had provided such a large workbench—it was barely enough to hold half the disassembled parts.

Even halfway through, the bench was nearly full. The instructor had to carefully shift the earlier parts closer together to make space for more, moving pieces forward and to the side repeatedly, compacting them. Soon, the seemingly solid miniature mech lay in a scattered pile of tiny components.

It was hard to believe that such a seemingly heavy and substantial miniature mech could disassemble into so many minuscule parts—each one crafted with precision beyond microns. The entire replica consisted of 3,792 small components.

And this was the simplest standard mech the instructor had described! The more complex models must be hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of times more intricate.

Although Jiang Hui found this subject fascinating and grew more excited as she listened, the sheer complexity was intimidating, causing a moment of hesitation.

Still, she was here merely to experience it. She had heard that the school’s Combat Infantry Department included mech courses, and she might soon get to operate a mech herself. So gaining some preliminary knowledge couldn’t hurt.

She encouraged herself and continued listening attentively, silently determined to remember every word and every delicate part described.

At this moment, perhaps even Jiang Hui herself didn’t realize it, but she was filled with profound admiration for mech manufacturing. She stared intently at every nugget of knowledge that might help her grow, unwilling to miss a single detail.

This segment of the course was long, yet neither Jiang Hui nor the other participants found it tiresome. Everyone earnestly struggled to absorb the instructor’s explanations.

This was a rare opportunity to engage with mechs, even if only to study miniature models—things ordinarily beyond the reach of ordinary people.

However, no matter how focused the lectures, they had a time limit. With the event’s duration fixed, most of the remaining time had to be reserved for the children to practice assembling their own mechs, or else the entire event would lose its purpose.

When the instructor concluded, the assembled participants almost sighed in disappointment, hoping to coax him into continuing. But he politely declined, smiling and inviting everyone to study at Wanhe Intermediate Academy—perhaps they’d have the chance to encounter him again.

Thoughtfully, he left the display of the disassembled parts on the screen instead of removing it, allowing the participants to reference the assembly order during their own mech construction.

After three instructors’ lessons, excitement ran high among the attendees. Young as they were, even the most obedient children found it hard to suppress their enthusiasm.

Neighbors began discussing the lessons just heard—some complained the lectures were too fast to follow, others gleefully told companions they could keep up, and some shouted they were eager to start assembling mechs right away. The hall buzzed with lively chatter of all kinds.

Not just them—Jiang Hui herself felt a surge of emotion after such an enriching instruction. Since arriving in the interstellar realm, this was her first encounter with such specialized knowledge, especially about mechs, a revolutionary weapon.

She felt as if she were touching something distant and wondrous, and an inner voice stirred deep within her soul, echoing the call.

She wanted to... try.
