Yi Xiaoyu opened the door to his apartment. Not far behind him, Old Yu stretched his neck, eager to see who was outside. Upon seeing Wen Ming’s face, a wave of jealousy surged in Old Yu’s heart.

Having learned from previous mistakes, Old Yu dared not rush forward aggressively to drive away his rival. Instead, he sat quietly on the sofa, looking at the two at the door with an aggrieved expression.

“I’ve already booked a table at a nearby restaurant,” Wen Ming said with a gentle smile, not noticing Old Yu inside. “You haven’t had breakfast yet—I thought you’d be hungry by now?”

“I am hungry, but…” Yi Xiaoyu stepped aside so Wen Ming could see Old Yu inside. “I might need ten more minutes.”

Lost in his own gloom, Old Yu didn’t catch what was being said at the door. When he noticed both of them looking his way, he stood up instinctively, his whole face as miserable as if struck by frost.

He suspected Wen Ming had come to invite Yi Xiaoyu out, but he lacked the courage to ask Yi Xiaoyu not to get too close to this man.

Wen Ming was surprised to see Old Yu in Yi Xiaoyu’s apartment, but he didn’t ask about it. He simply said softly, “Then I’ll see you in ten minutes.”

Yi Xiaoyu nodded, his expression complicated. “Alright.”

“Xiaoyu,” Wen Ming called gently, his voice full of tenderness, “I love you.”

Yi Xiaoyu stared at the floor. “I…”

“I don’t need your answer now. I’m willing to wait. I just hope…” Wen Ming glanced at Old Yu, then continued softly, “I hope you won’t make the wrong choice again.”

“I understand.”

“Alright, I’ll wait for you downstairs in the lobby.”

After Wen Ming left, Yi Xiaoyu closed the door. He walked over to the sofa, just about to say something when Old Yu spoke first, “I won’t be petty anymore.” Staring at the floor, his face full of misery, Old Yu continued, “Wherever you go, whoever you’re with, I trust you now. I’ll never doubt you again. Next time I see that pretty boy… No, Mr. Wen, I’ll be polite and greet him.”

“You…”

“I mean it. Whatever you do, I’ll understand and support you.”

Yi Xiaoyu looked at Old Yu’s tear-filled eyes and sighed softly. “You haven’t had breakfast, have you?”

“No. I didn’t eat lunch or dinner yesterday, either.” Old Yu sniffed, looking utterly pitiful. “I haven’t even had a sip of water—hungry, thirsty, and exhausted.”

“Go to a nearby restaurant and get something to eat,” Yi Xiaoyu said blandly. “Come back after, I’ll return soon, and then… we’ll have a proper talk.”

Thinking he was about to be persuaded to sign the divorce papers again, alarm bells rang in Old Yu’s heart. He pursed his lips for a long time before forcing out, “I won’t divorce.”

Not for anything in the world.

“It’s not about divorce.”

Old Yu looked up, his eyes shining. “Then…”

“Go eat first.”

Old Yu asked tentatively, “Not going together?”

“I already have an appointment with Wen Ming.”

There were things he needed to clarify with Wen Ming.

Old Yu’s heart ached, but he had no choice but to hold it in. He asked cautiously, “Can you add me to the meal? I promise, I’ll just eat—I won’t say a word.”

“No.”

“Then…” Old Yu shrugged, “I wish you and Mr. Wen an enjoyable meal.”

After Yi Xiaoyu left, Old Yu couldn’t hold back anymore. He stomped off to the bathroom, picked up Yi Xiaoyu’s toothbrush and started brushing his teeth, then vented his frustration by wiping his feet with Yi Xiaoyu’s face towel.

His wife was off having a meal with that pretty boy.

His wife was about to cheat on him.

His wife was about to make the lover official.

Thoughts like these swirled through Old Yu’s mind. Eventually, he lay down on Yi Xiaoyu’s bed and rolled around twice before calming himself.

He had no intention of leaving the apartment, so he prepared to order takeout. Just then, Xiao Zhou called.

Xiao Zhou’s voice was serious. “Boss, remember that guy you beat up at the casino last year?”

“I’ve beaten up so many people every year, how am I supposed to know who you mean?”

“Come on, boss, it’s that son of the mayor from City V. He caused trouble at our casino last year and ended up hospitalized after you dealt with him.”

“I don’t remember. Anything not related to my wife gets regularly cleared from my mind, you know that.”

“I really admire you, boss. To keep it short, I was drinking with some guys from the district, and one of them told me that the mayor’s son tried to hire his friend to get revenge on you. But because his friend didn’t dare offend you, he refused.”

“Oh.” Old Yu grasped the gist. “So that so-called mayor’s son wants to get back at me?”

“Yeah, I’m not worried if he comes at you directly—I can handle him for you. What concerns me is if he tries something sneaky.”

“Got it. I’ll stay alert for a while.”

“Also, let Brother Xiao be careful. If the guy can’t get at you, he might try to hurt someone close to you out of spite.”
