Chapter 51: Exchanging These Documents for My Life
Qiu Ze slid a brown paper bag forward. Pei Susu stared at him in disbelief, then quickly tore open the bag to check its contents. Upon seeing that the documents inside were indeed all about Robert, her expression shifted suddenly; joy and gratitude blossomed across her face.
"This is exactly what I need right now. Thank you, Mr. Qiu," she said.
She hadn’t expected to obtain these materials so easily. Pei Susu promptly sealed the paper bag again.
"You saved my life yesterday. These documents in exchange for my life—there’s no point in being stingy," said Qiu Ze, businesslike as ever. "With these, you’ll certainly have a better chance to approach Robert. But a good project can’t rely solely on information like this."
Ultimately, it all came down to capability. Qiu Ze didn’t believe that possessing these documents meant much in the grand scheme.
Pei Susu couldn’t help but click her tongue in admiration.
No wonder he was such a technical expert—his own skills were formidable, so he hardly cared about things like this.
But for Pei Susu, these documents were indispensable keys to open doors.
"Regardless, I still have to thank you," she said.
Qiu Ze stared at his computer, unmoved by her gratitude. Only after a while did he seem to remember her, looking up and sizing her up.
"You look much better today than you did yesterday," he remarked.
Today, Pei Susu was dressed in her usual style. Hearing this, she wondered if Qiu Ze was teasing her about yesterday’s antics and felt a bit embarrassed.
"Since I’ve got what I wanted, I won’t disturb you any longer," she said.
He looked so focused, as if even talking to him in this moment would be sacrilege. Pei Susu had never met a man quite like him and could only keep her distance respectfully.
Qiu Ze didn’t reply. Pei Susu thanked him again, then left the café.
As soon as she stepped outside, she hailed a cab without hesitation and headed straight to Mo Corporation.
She had barely reached the office door when Mo Qingyu opened it and greeted her.
"I’ve gone through everything you sent me. These documents are crucial for us!"
On the way over, Pei Susu had already snapped photos of the first few pages and sent them to Mo Qingyu. After so long without progress, suddenly receiving so much information, how could Mo Qingyu not be excited?
"I’m gathering the project team for a meeting now. This time, we must secure Ti and complete this project smoothly!"
Mo Qingyu, in her high heels, went off to arrange everything.
Ten minutes later, everyone was assembled in the conference room.
It had only been a day, and no one expected Pei Susu to be so resourceful. They had worked so hard for so long without results, yet she had solved it in just one day. The veteran employees felt somewhat humbled, but couldn’t help their delight.
"The documents are printed and placed before each of you. Regarding Robert, these materials should be detailed enough. Whether they can be used to craft a satisfactory response now depends on all of you," Pei Susu said with a gentle smile. Her confident demeanor made it hard for others to meet her gaze directly. Everyone hurriedly opened the documents and began to browse.
"So Robert actually believes red is unlucky? No wonder he refused to talk to me that day—it turns out I was wearing red," someone exclaimed.
Reading through the materials, the team found themselves both amused and enlightened; previous mysteries suddenly made sense.
After some discussion, the project finally saw new progress. Pei Susu didn’t need to be involved in this phase. Mo Qingyu was very grateful, but had more pressing matters to attend to and could only let Pei Susu go for now.
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back," Pei Susu said as she approached Mo Qingyu.
"There’s a tough battle ahead. Communicating with Robert might not be as smooth as we hope, even now that we know his preferences," she mused.
Robert was a quirky old man. Even after gathering all this information, Pei Susu felt uneasy.
"Thank you for your efforts, Miss Pei," Mo Qingyu said solemnly. "If this project succeeds, you’ll deserve much of the credit. Mo Corporation will surely reward you handsomely."
"Even if it doesn’t succeed, I’ll personally prepare a generous gift."
Pei Susu smiled.
"It’s too early to say. You go ahead, President Mo. I’ll see myself out."
Actually, just minutes earlier, Fu Zhichen had messaged her—he was already waiting downstairs.
Mo Qingyu noticed her glance at her phone and seemed to understand, her eyes glinting with a hint of teasing.
"Alright, in that case, I won’t keep you from your personal time. See you tomorrow."
Pei Susu nodded and headed downstairs.
However, things didn’t unfold as Mo Qingyu expected. Fu Zhichen didn’t take Pei Susu home; instead, she dove straight into preparations for her French lessons.
Robert's mother tongue was French. Years ago, Pei Susu had taken French as an elective in university, so she wasn’t completely unfamiliar. However, after years of not using it, she had grown rusty.
Seeing her flustered and frantic, Fu Zhichen caught her wrist.
His fingertips carried a faint chill, which transferred through her skin to her wrist. Pei Susu frowned and grabbed his hand in return.
"Why are your hands so cold?"
Fu Zhichen shook his head, then parted his lips and spoke a sentence of fluent French.
They say French is the most romantic language in the world. With his magnetic voice, Pei Susu was momentarily stunned, then delighted as she realized.
"Zhichen, you speak French?"
Studying alone could never compare to practicing conversation with someone else. Fu Zhichen nodded, "I learned a bit in the past."
Pei Susu could tell his pronunciation was impeccable—far more than "a bit." So, together they crammed late into the night. Pei Susu was naturally quick-witted, and since this was just a refresher, after a night’s practice she was already speaking fluently.
Nestled in Fu Zhichen’s embrace, he spoke softly, as if deliberately letting his warm breath tickle her ear. Pei Susu felt a tingling warmth, her earlobes flushing red.
Was he really not doing it on purpose?
Fu Zhichen seemed more mischievous these days.
Escaping his heated breath, Pei Susu cast him an annoyed glance, but her cheeks were flushed, and that glance felt like coyness, deepening the look in Fu Zhichen’s eyes.
"Susu," he murmured.
His French suddenly stopped, leaving Pei Susu puzzled for a moment.
Then, he smoothly uttered another sentence in French, quick and quiet, almost as if he didn’t want her to understand.
But she knew.
He’d just said "I love you" in French.
