Chapter Fifty-Four: Haihe Corporation
Early the next morning, Pei Susu arrived at the company. Zhou Haoyue, seeing her looking rosy and refreshed, couldn’t help but tease, “Looks like these days away from the office have been quite good for you, President Pei.”
“A person’s spirits always rise with good news—it’s been excellent, indeed,” Pei Susu replied with a smile.
Zhou Haoyue arched an eyebrow.
“Don’t get any ideas,” Pei Susu cut off Zhou Haoyue’s gossiping thoughts with a single sentence. “I’m talking about the project. These past few days, I went to Mo Corporation and resolved a major project. I suppose my resume will soon boast another achievement.”
“So industrious, Sister Susu,” Zhou Haoyue couldn’t help but groan. “I thought you’d wrapped up the project and gone on vacation, but it turns out you secretly took on a huge task behind our backs. I feel like our revolutionary friendship has been hurt!”
Pei Susu smiled, her brows gently curved. “It was just a stroke of luck that I got this opportunity. If something like this comes up again, I’ll think of everyone.”
“I was just saying,” Zhou Haoyue quickly waved her hand. “I wouldn’t want to work overtime every day anyway. Only you have such stamina.”
As they chatted, they reached the office door. Pei Susu said, “Let’s hold a meeting in ten minutes to discuss the matter regarding Haihe Corporation.”
This was the first issue she needed to address after coming to work today. Pei Susu had a persistent feeling that Haihe Corporation was rather suspicious, but she couldn’t ignore the opinions of others.
“Alright, I’ll arrange it now.”
Ten minutes later, everyone was seated in the meeting room. Pei Susu projected the relevant PPT about Haihe Corporation onto the main screen.
“This time, eight people in the project team recommended Haihe Corporation to me, yet this company has always been completely unknown,” Pei Susu spoke gravely. “I’ve looked into some news about Haihe over the past couple of days. Aside from a few local mentions, there’s almost no discussion. Give me a reason—why should we choose them?”
At her words, an employee stepped forward and handed her the documents.
“President Pei, these are the results we’ve compiled recently. Haihe Corporation’s accounts are the clearest and most advantageous.”
The team had worked overtime through the night to investigate, each believing they’d seized the latest business opportunity, though none expected to arrive at the same conclusion.
Pei Susu examined the reports before her in silence, her delicate brows lightly furrowed.
If these statements were genuine, then Haihe Corporation was indeed their best option so far—perhaps unrivaled.
“President Pei, rest assured, we’ve already verified these financial reports. There shouldn’t be any issues,” the employee affirmed.
Pei Susu read through the documents from start to finish. The conditions were indeed superb, and she found no trace of falsification. But if Haihe truly possessed such capabilities, how could it have remained so obscure for so long?
“I’ll look into this project further,” Pei Susu closed the report and nodded. “The day after tomorrow, the teams that recommended Haihe—Group A and Group B—will accompany me on a business trip to Wanjiang City.”
Since information about Haihe couldn’t be thoroughly investigated online, she would conduct an in-person visit.
Though Pei Susu had always been cautious, it was impossible not to be tempted by such substantial profits.
“Understood!”
With the details settled, Pei Susu stepped out, Zhou Haoyue trailing behind her, somewhat hesitant.
“Maybe we should stick to the companies we’ve always worked with. They’re safer. I really feel like something’s off with Haihe,” Zhou Haoyue said.
“But as navigators in the business world, we can’t rely solely on experience. Otherwise, we’ll never progress,” Pei Susu replied, her slender fingers patting Zhou Haoyue’s shoulder, offering a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.”
Pei Susu had never disappointed anyone in these matters—her judgment was always reliable. Zhou Haoyue felt reassured and nodded.
“We can treat the field inspection as a vacation for them. A stroll through Wanjiang City wouldn’t be amiss; after wrapping up the last project, everyone’s spirits have become restless.”
The business trip was settled—one week away.
Pei Susu shared the news with Fu Zhichen. The man’s deep eyes revealed reluctant longing, and, disregarding the fact that they were in the car, he silently took her hand, gently playing with her fingers.
“It’s only for a week. Once the inspection there is over, I’ll come straight home,” Pei Susu soothed him softly. A week was neither long nor short; she understood his reluctance, but she could not neglect her work.
“Wanjiang City isn’t far from here. I’ll be back before you know it.”
Fu Zhichen still didn’t look up. After a pause, his magnetic voice carried a hint of barely perceptible grievance. “Then let me go with you, can I, Sister?”
This time, Pei Susu wouldn’t be traveling alone—she’d be accompanied by over a dozen others from the project team. If Fu Zhichen were exposed to them, it would certainly be inconvenient.
She thought for a moment, then reached out and touched his shoulder, clearly conveying her refusal. When she spoke again, her tone was coaxing.
“This trip is for work, not for pleasure. Haven’t you always supported and respected my career, Xiao Chen?”
The warmth of his hand lingered in her palm. Pei Susu wasn’t sure what he was thinking, but at last he nodded, conceding.
She knew this approach always worked, and it had succeeded once more.
“Be good and wait for me at home. As soon as I finish things over there, I’ll hurry back.”
Ahead, traffic was heavy, a sea of people stuck on the road.
Pei Susu glanced out curiously. “Why is it so lively outside?”
Uncle Zhang, the driver, chuckled warmly.
“It seems there’s a lantern festival up ahead. President Fu, Miss Pei, shall we stop and take a look?”
Instinctively, Pei Susu was about to refuse, but as she turned, she met Fu Zhichen’s slightly damp eyes. Sensing his wish, she tentatively asked, “Xiao Chen, do you want to go?”
She’d thought he wouldn’t care for such bustling events. Fu Zhichen stared at her for a moment, then nodded.
Pei Susu couldn’t help but smile at his demeanor.
“All right, Uncle Zhang, let’s go have a look.”
Uncle Zhang agreed, not needing to ask Fu Zhichen—everyone around them had long noticed that Fu Zhichen treated Miss Pei as if she were the rarest treasure.
