Chapter Sixty-One: The Verdant Meadow
Pei Susu had already made up her mind, and now, seeing him dodge the issue so lightly, she was even more certain—the report was undoubtedly forged, and quite a bit of it was watered down.
Lost in thought, Pei Susu was just about to probe him with a few questions when suddenly her phone rang.
"Excuse me, I need to take this call."
With a frown, Pei Susu stepped away, picked up her phone, and when she saw the caller ID on the screen, surprise quickly gave way to disgust.
Liang Wenru?
Why would he suddenly call her?
It was unprecedented, but all Pei Susu felt was revulsion, and she had no desire to answer.
Her finger hovered over the decline button for two seconds, but in the end, she chose to pick up.
"Susu, I miss you... Shall we get back together?"
Liang Wenru’s first words made Pei Susu’s brows knit even tighter.
"Mr. Liang, wasn’t it you who was so eager to divorce me before? Why are you suddenly regretting it now?"
There was no need to say more—he must have hit another rough patch. It was always at times like these that he remembered her virtues, always assuming someone would wait for him forever.
How could that be possible?
A mocking glint flashed in Pei Susu’s eyes.
"Turning back now, is it because the grass ahead has turned you green?"
She had just spoken offhand, but it hit Liang Wenru right where it hurt.
"Susu, why have you become so sharp-tongued?"
Listening to his wounded tone, Pei Susu let out a silent laugh. She was now certain it had something to do with Chu Qingzhu, so she shifted her demeanor, her voice becoming softer and gentler.
"I was only speaking casually. So, what happened… do you need my help?"
She was genuinely curious about what Chu Qingzhu had done to get caught by Liang Wenru.
Let us turn back the clock a few hours.
Liang Wenru was at a business dinner, entertaining several brand representatives, all notorious for their harshness. When he saw them secretly pointing at him and laughing, Liang Wenru didn’t think anything was amiss.
"Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, let me toast you both."
Liang Wenru smiled obsequiously, drained his glass, and said, "Our future business depends on your support."
Mr. Li couldn’t help but laugh at his words.
"Your little lover has gone off to accompany other partners. With someone as high-profile as Lu Yu, why would she need us to look after her?"
At this, the others burst into laughter, their eyes full of ridicule as they looked at Liang Wenru.
Little lover?
Liang Wenru was instantly stunned—they must be talking about Chu Qingzhu.
She was with Lu Yu?
A surge of anger rushed to his head. Remembering Chu Qingzhu’s odd behavior recently, he had no doubt that what they said was true.
Seeing the mocking glances around him, Liang Wenru’s face flushed bright red. He stood there, awkward and uncertain.
Mr. Li stood up and patted him on the shoulder.
"I know running a company isn’t easy these days, but to be in your situation, it’s truly pitiable."
"This partnership is settled, then. Let’s hope for a pleasant cooperation."
The brand representatives all left with smiles, leaving Liang Wenru alone, his expression twisted.
"Assistant, book a car now. Find out where Chu Qingzhu is!"
His assistant hesitated, seeing his demeanor. Liang Wenru immediately realized something.
"You know too, don’t you?"
Pressed by his questioning, the assistant’s face turned grim. In the end, she nodded and told him Chu Qingzhu had a business engagement at a KTV tonight.
"What kind of decent person does business at a KTV?" Liang Wenru sneered. "Let’s go!"
When they arrived at the KTV, they saw Chu Qingzhu swaying her snake-like waist, clad in a nearly transparent camisole, arm in arm with a man as they entered a private room.
The partner, Lu Yu, was generous and wealthy, and good-looking to boot. He was known as a diamond bachelor, the type every woman desired. How could Chu Qingzhu not be tempted?
With so many men coveting her beauty, Chu Qingzhu was well aware of her advantages. She refused to believe any man could resist her charms.
Unaware that someone was standing outside the door, Chu Qingzhu did her utmost to please. As she took the initiative, Lu Yu became interested, lifting her chin with one hand.
"I heard you have a boyfriend. Flirting with men in public like this—does he know?"
Chu Qingzhu sneered.
"I’ve secured so many resources for him. Even if he knows, what of it? He still has to rely on me."
Liang Wenru stood outside the door, his face red with rage, desperate to storm in and tear the pair apart.
Suddenly, they both stood up.
"KTV is so dull. I have a membership card for a nearby hotel," Chu Qingzhu said, tugging at Lu Yu’s tie, her gaze seductive. "President Lu, wouldn’t you like to go to the hotel for a little rest?"
Her meaning was clear. Lu Yu’s eyes darkened, and he pinched her waist.
"You certainly know how to play."
Seeing them prepare to leave, Liang Wenru instinctively hid to the side. He waited until they were gone from the KTV before he, unable to contain his fury, kicked the door to the private room.
So this was his wonderful girlfriend!
Openly seducing another man, even suggesting a tryst in a hotel!
"Let’s go, to the hotel."
Liang Wenru’s face was now completely dark. His assistant dared not defy him, trailing closely behind.
When they arrived at the hotel, the couple had already disappeared. Liang Wenru, beside himself with rage, rushed to the front desk.
"A pair of adulterers just went upstairs—give me their room card!"
Dressed in a suit but in a fit of rage, the front desk clerk looked at him with a hint of pity.
So he’s working out here, only to discover his girlfriend has betrayed him?
"Sir, I’d love to help, but our hotel has rules. We can’t disclose guest information…"
Liang Wenru slammed the desk twice. "Don’t give me that nonsense. I want the room card!"
Startled, the clerk stammered for a while before finally giving him a room number.
"Sir… I really can’t give you the room card."
Liang Wenru no longer cared about the card. He rushed upstairs, pounding on the door.
"Come out, both of you!"
He was making so much noise that the door soon opened. Lu Yu stood there in a bathrobe, looking utterly satisfied, and before he could react, Liang Wenru punched him in the face.
"Ah!"
Like a wild beast, Liang Wenru charged into the room. Chu Qingzhu, covered in red marks, hadn’t had time to grab her clothes to cover herself. Seeing this, Liang Wenru, enraged to the point of laughter, could barely contain himself.
