Never had Liang Wenru expected that Chu Qingzhu would confront him so boldly; at first, panic flashed in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by indifference.

“Why did you use so much force? If you break something, you’ll have to pay for it.”

Liang Wenru was caught off guard. He had barged in to catch them in the act, yet Chu Qingzhu reacted as if it were nothing. She hastily pulled a dress over herself, then nervously went to help Lu Yu up. “Are you alright? I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Lu Yu threw Liang Wenru a provocative glance, the mockery and scorn in his eyes cutting into Liang Wenru’s pride like a whip. He wanted nothing more than to tear the two apart.

But as Lu Yu picked up his car keys—the very limited edition sports car, only ten in the entire country—reality dawned on him. This was not someone he could afford to offend. The punch he just threw had drained all his impulsiveness; now, in retrospect, all he felt was cold dread.

“What are you looking at? Have you ever even touched a car like this?” Lu Yu pulled Chu Qingzhu into his arms. “When you can afford to drive a car like this, then maybe you can touch other people’s girlfriends.”

“Understand? Coward!”

While Liang Wenru hesitated, Chu Qingzhu and Lu Yu had already walked out of the hotel room, leaving him alone amid the wreckage of the storm, his face darkening completely.

At that moment, he suddenly realized how foolish he’d been. Pei Susu was capable and gentle with him—why had he been so blind as to choose Chu Qingzhu, that wretched woman?

He didn’t have long to dwell on his regrets. A group of bodyguards entered in single file, seized him without a word, and unceremoniously threw him out the door.

“Our boss Lu said dogs belong where dogs belong. Even if the room is checked out, you shouldn’t be standing inside.”

The bodyguards snickered, shut the door behind them, and strode away, leaving Liang Wenru sprawled on the hotel carpet. A few bystanders, witnessing the scene, began recording with their phones. After all, such a spectacle was a rare treat.

“That was the guy causing a scene downstairs, claiming he was going to catch his cheating partner. Looks like he really caught them.”

“All I can say is: my condolences.”

“He looks so pathetic, hahaha…”

Hearing the jeers and ridicule, Liang Wenru felt his dignity crumble to dust. He scrambled up off the floor, his eyes flashing with fury; those who’d been mocking him quickly scattered, not daring to provoke him further.

With trembling hands, Liang Wenru unlocked his phone, thinking to call someone to pick him up from the hotel. Somehow, he ended up on Pei Susu’s contact screen.

If only Pei Susu were the one by his side now—she would never let him be so humiliated… Regret overwhelmed him, and before he realized it, he had already dialed her number.

“Susu, I really know I was wrong. I only now realize that you were always the best for me. Let’s get back together—please?”

“Xingye is your hard work too. Let’s run the company together and return to the way things used to be. Wouldn’t that be better?”

Hearing his words, Pei Susu almost felt sick. She wanted to vomit up yesterday’s dinner.

But when she didn’t respond, Liang Wenru thought she was simply too shocked, too overwhelmed by joy to speak. He gave a gentle laugh.

“I know, Susu, this may be a bit sudden for you. But I really mean it this time. Let’s build a home together and cherish it. Isn’t that better than anything else?”

“I don’t want anything else.”

Did Liang Wenru really believe his words were moving?

A few senior managers from Haihe Corporation were already approaching. If Pei Susu had any spare time, perhaps she’d indulge him for a few moments, but now, business with Haihe was the priority.

“I’m still at work. If you have something to say, let’s talk later, alright?”

She had never expected much from Chu Qingzhu to begin with; this outcome was no surprise. But Liang Wenru’s self-righteous attitude thoroughly disgusted her. After wandering the world, he suddenly realized she was the best, and with a display of feigned affection, wanted to wipe away all his past mistakes…

Utterly revolting.

Pei Susu hung up without another word, while on the other end, Liang Wenru was grinning with delight.

He’d thought Pei Susu would respond with sarcasm or at least a few clever words, but she remained as gentle as she was in his memory; clearly, she still couldn’t let go of him. Her tone may have been a little cold, but it was obvious she was just shy—he understood these little feminine sensibilities well.

Turning away, the prying eyes around him suddenly seemed unimportant.

Liang Wenru was utterly convinced that a new life awaited him. As for Chu Qingzhu? She was already history.

Unaware of Liang Wenru’s self-satisfaction, Pei Susu ended the call and returned to the group from Haihe Corporation.

“Sorry, I was held up by personal matters for a moment.”

The executives all shook their heads, and Zhang Haihe was especially ingratiating.

“President Pei, you must be busy—so many important matters to handle every day. We understand completely.”

The other executives all echoed his words.

Now that they were in the office area, Pei Susu put away her phone. Glancing around, she saw Haihe’s employees all idly browsing at their desks, not a hint of motivation to be seen.

“Ahem!”

Zhao Haihe, too, quickly realized the situation and cleared his throat loudly. Only then did the employees lazily switch their screens to work mode.

It was a laughable operation.

“Your company’s employees certainly seem… untamed. Not exactly the kind of competitive drive you’d expect from a big company.”

Zhao Haihe could tell this wasn’t a compliment, but could only smile awkwardly.

“Recently, everyone has been busy with the Fu Group project. It’s just that we finally got a few days off, so perhaps they’re a bit slack.”

This was clearly not just a matter of a day or two.

These people obviously lacked any passion for their work. If this were the Fu Group, with such a prominent client visiting, even employees uninvolved in the project would try to make an impression—who knows, perhaps a good impression could open new opportunities down the road.

But now, seeing all this, Pei Susu simply smiled without comment.

There was no need to call them out; she was already convinced that Haihe Corporation was riddled with flaws. They were in no way worth collaborating with.
