“[Blood Boil]!”
At Zhang Ran’s command, the third [Blood Boil] ability rune on the Evolution Tree suddenly flared to life. Waves of wondrous energy surged forth, spreading in every direction around his body.
Under the influence of those mysterious fluctuations, Zhang Ran’s heartbeat abruptly quickened. The blood in his veins accelerated, rushing madly toward his heart, where it condensed and burned before being pumped out again in surging waves of boiling blood.
The boiling blood spread throughout Zhang Ran’s body, accelerating his hormones and temporarily enhancing his four fundamental attributes: strength, constitution, agility, and spirit.
By then, the Level Four Werewolf Chieftain and the Level Four Werewolf Grand Elder had also caught up. The chieftain wielded a massive battle-axe, while the grand elder carried two enormous bone clubs. Hatred blazed in their eyes as they fixed their gazes upon Zhang Ran, as though they wished to swallow him alive.
Compared with humans, werewolves were a heterogeneous race, yet their sense of kinship was even stronger. Unlike humans, they did not treat the deaths of their companions with indifference.
Moreover, the werewolf Zhang Ran had killed was no ordinary warrior, but a powerful Level Three Werewolf Shaman—one who had been difficult to produce and possessed the potential to advance to Level Four. Thus, both the chieftain and the grand elder were consumed by fury.
“You two fools, come on!”
Looking at the two werewolves raging in the distance, Zhang Ran crooked his little finger in a provocative gesture, a mocking smile curling across his face.
Though they could not understand one another’s languages, the gesture further enraged the werewolf chieftain and the grand elder. They let out furious howls and charged at Zhang Ran from both sides.
When they reached him, a red glow flashed across the body of the werewolf chieftain on the left. He swung his massive axe, cleaving out a crimson arc of light that carried terrifying power as it descended toward Zhang Ran’s waist.
The great axe wielded by the werewolf chieftain had been fashioned from the body of a Level Five mutated beast. Its hardness was in no way inferior to that of top-grade Level Two alloy. As for the red glow, it was the manifestation of his [Enhanced Axe Strike], an ability that greatly amplified the power of his blow.
To Zhang Ran’s right, the muscles across the werewolf grand elder’s body suddenly swelled as he activated [Strength Enhancement]. His strength instantly increased by fifteen percent, and the pair of bone clubs in his hands came crashing down toward Zhang Ran’s head.
“You’re far too weak. There’s no challenge at all!”
Facing the werewolf grand elder and the chieftain, Zhang Ran smiled faintly. With a twist of his body, he evaded the grand elder’s twin strikes. At the same time, he gripped his machete with both hands and brought it up against the werewolf chieftain’s great axe.
Clang!
In midair, Zhang Ran’s machete cut straight through the crimson radiance unleashed by the werewolf chieftain’s axe. A moment later, blade and axe collided, producing a shrill metallic ring.
After activating [Blood Boil], Zhang Ran’s strength had increased by twenty-five percent, reaching fifteen points—the level of a Level Six evolver. His power was immense.
By contrast, the werewolf chieftain possessed a base strength of only 9.7 points. Even with the combined enhancement of [Blessing] and [Enhanced Axe Strike], the force behind his attack reached only twelve points. The difference between them was enormous.
With a single slash, Zhang Ran sent the werewolf chieftain flying ten meters. He crashed heavily onto the ground, both arms and his shoulders numb with pain, nearly unable to keep hold of his great axe.
“How can a human possess such strength?”
Disbelief flashed through the werewolf chieftain’s eyes as he roared in the werewolf tongue.
Zhang Ran had never learned the werewolf language, so he naturally had no idea what the chieftain was saying. He simply activated [Blood Dash] without hesitation, transforming into a streak of blood-colored light as he charged toward the werewolf chieftain.
His figure flickered across the wilderness. In less than a second, he appeared before the werewolf chieftain. His arm swept out, sending a condensed and incredibly swift blade arc toward the chieftain’s throat.
At the same time, Zhang Ran activated [Blood Plunder]. The [Blood Plunder] rune in his mind-sea flashed abruptly, and the blood within his body condensed into two razor-sharp blood spikes that shot toward the werewolf chieftain’s head.
Facing Zhang Ran’s slash, the werewolf chieftain’s fur stood on end. He barely managed to raise his great axe and bring it forward in a desperate block.
Clang!
Another deafening crash rang out as sparks flew in every direction. The werewolf chieftain felt a terrifying force slam into him once more. His already numb arms lost all sensation, and the blood vessels in both his upper and lower arms burst open, soaking them in crimson. Unable to hold on to his great axe, he let it fall to the ground with a heavy clatter.
At the same time, the two blood spikes arrived, shooting toward the werewolf chieftain’s head from opposite sides.
He had just suffered Zhang Ran’s devastating blow, leaving his arms temporarily beyond his control. Utterly unable to resist, he was struck by the two blood spikes through his ears.
Carrying immense kinetic force, the blood spikes instantly shredded his ear canals into minced flesh. They then continued their advance, penetrating deep into the werewolf chieftain’s brain.
Without mercy, the two blood spikes churned through his brain matter, grinding it into a pale, viscous pulp.
With his brain completely destroyed, even the Level Four werewolf chieftain—whose vitality was more than ten times that of an ordinary human—could not survive. He was irredeemably dead. His body went limp and collapsed onto the ground, all four limbs twitching erratically by instinct before he finally expired.
A surge of evolutionary energy emerged from the body of the Level Four werewolf chieftain, crossed the intervening space, and entered Zhang Ran’s body.
At the same time, Zhang Ran strode toward the werewolf grand elder.
The grand elder’s first strike had missed. He had just raised his clubs, preparing to attack Zhang Ran alongside the chieftain, when he saw the chieftain killed before his eyes. His courage shattered at once. He no longer dared to fight. Abandoning his two clubs, he broke into a full retreat.
“Too slow!”
Looking at the werewolf grand elder in the distance, a cold glint flashed through Zhang Ran’s eyes as he activated [Blood Dash] once more.
After activating [Blood Boil], Zhang Ran’s agility had reached 12.8 points, far surpassing that of the werewolf grand elder. With the additional acceleration provided by [Blood Spikes], the distance between them rapidly narrowed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
“Die!”
Several seconds later, Zhang Ran appeared behind the werewolf grand elder. He swung his machete, and a clear, cold blade of light swept forth, shooting straight toward the grand elder’s throat.
