The Demon Fox Who Traveled Through Time Once More

Kurama the Demon Fox Wakaba Shio 3390 words 2026-03-05 01:29:45

Kurama suspected he might have traveled through worlds once again.

Why "again"? Because this was not his first time crossing into another realm.

When he first transmigrated from an upright, patriotic youth of the Celestial Empire to a fox, Kurama’s reaction was far from the calm composure he displayed now. Back then, he was overwhelmed by anxiety and panic, desperately seeking a way to return to his original world. But the outcome? Needless to say, every attempt ended in failure.

Eventually, Kurama realized he might never return. For a long stretch, he lived in a state of despondency and self-abandonment, curling himself into a ball of fur in the darkest, most hidden corners, refusing food and drink, shutting out all sounds and sights—as if he could escape the sorrow and despair simply by hiding away.

Yet, as the saying goes, regardless of how you feel, life must go on.

And so, Kurama finally pulled himself together, though it took him a very long time. That wasn’t without its benefits, however. For instance, when he discovered the fox he had become was named Kurama, and shared a companion called Yomi, the Kurama whose spirit had been thoroughly cleansed by time was entirely unflustered.

Thus, when his survival depended on obediently following the storyline alongside Yusuke Urameshi, the protagonist of “Yu Yu Hakusho,” Kurama adapted seamlessly—showing no trace of being a world traveler. His only moment of lost composure was for Genkai.

Originally, Kurama thought he could simply let events unfold as they were meant to, without interfering or altering anything. But it wasn’t until then that this foolish child realized: some emotions can only be understood through personal experience; some people only reveal their importance once you truly spend time with them.

So, Kurama acted out of character just once—to save Genkai’s life. He nearly awakened his demon fox form ahead of time and even resorted to forbidden demon world plants. Yet, the result…

He was still unable to change the outcome. Genkai passed away at that same moment.

Kurama’s view and attitude toward this world shifted drastically. No longer was he a detached traveler indifferent to everything; he began to truly integrate into this world.

Alongside the main group, Kurama continued his journey, forming bonds and friendships as deep and meaningful as those in the original story.

So, when the story finally concluded, Kurama did not depart as he had planned, but remained within reach of his friends, carrying on his tranquil and gentle high school life.

—Until a letter of distress from the demon world shattered his peaceful existence and… brought him and the other three together once more.

The cause was Yomi’s discovery of a secret demon clan relic deep in the demon realm forest.

Though the only demon left was Yusuke, and it could have been ignored, Yomi felt uneasy—there seemed to be a powerful and mysterious force within the ruins, vaguely drawing all inhabitants of the demon world toward it.

After careful consideration, Yomi decided to seek Yusuke and the others’ help. In answer to his call, the former champions of the Dark Tournament reunited in the demon world, joining forces to investigate the ruins.

Normally, someone like Kurama, a strategist and technical expert, would remain in the rear to provide support (?), but the Demon Fox’s brilliance had always made him the “brain” of the group, his wits unrivaled.

Thus, he was among the first to approach the ruins. When Yusuke accidentally triggered something, causing the ruins to erupt in a blinding light and a powerful gravitational force, Kurama did something so unexpectedly selfless that even he was surprised—

He pushed Yusuke aside.

Drawn relentlessly toward a massive black hole by an irresistible force, Kurama watched his friends outside the thick barrier—frantic and helpless, unable to do anything—as he, caught in the storm, suddenly grew calm.

“Take care of my mother for me.”

—He only had time to utter this phrase before he was swept into endless darkness.

At that moment, Kurama did not expect to ever awaken again.

So when consciousness returned, honestly, he was a little surprised.

But, “Since I’m here… I might as well settle in.”

He glanced around at the vast, seemingly peaceful forest surrounding him and the demon fox smiled.

“Well then…”

“What kind of place is this?”

The demon world plants he sent out to gather intelligence soon brought back news about the forest.

Based on their findings, the forest, though it appeared vast, was not as large as Kurama had imagined. Heading south from his location, a few kilometers away lay a tunnel with clear signs of human construction, proving this was not some ancient, untouched land.

Kurama thought that by following the tunnel, he might find traces of towns or human activity, so he didn’t hesitate, flying directly toward its location.

He kept busy along the way, sending demon world dandelions to explore both ends of the tunnel—if luck was on his side, they might uncover clues before he arrived, guiding his next steps.

The demon world dandelions Kurama used were a modified breed. He had nurtured their seeds in his blood, making them more intelligent than the wild variety. Not only did they spread quickly, but their bond with Kurama—both emotional and contractual—allowed them not just to gather and relay information, but to filter and sort it as well, saving Kurama much trouble.

Indeed, before he even reached the tunnel, the dandelions spreading east brought him a very interesting message—on a clearing in the forest, beings resembling humans were fiercely battling some unknown type of monster.

Kurama was intrigued by his dandelions’ choice of words.

“Beings resembling humans”? What an odd description.

Demon world plants, due to their nature, could always distinguish humans from non-humans with uncanny precision. Before this, Kurama had only heard them use such phrasing for one person.

—Yusuke, before his demon blood awakened.

“So, among those the dandelions found, someone is very similar to Yusuke’s former state?”

Kurama raised an eyebrow.

In that case, whether to make contact with this world’s natives or to satisfy his rising curiosity, he had every reason to investigate.

Quickly adjusting his course, Kurama accelerated along the path indicated by the dandelions.

He arrived just as the battle was ending. An elegant, dark-haired youth wielding an ancient longbow stood before a slender boy with glasses, aiming at the nearly defeated monster and, with a stoic face, constantly berating his companion.

Things like, “You’re overestimating yourself, how could you handle a monster like this alone,” “If I hadn’t come in time, what would have happened to you,” “Miss Yuuko opened the portal and transported us here, you’re paying the price,” and so on…

—All of which starkly contradicted his icy, handsome persona.

Yet Kurama had little interest in such matters now.

—He had just heard… “Miss Yuuko”?!

Could it be… the one he knew?

Hope blazed in his eyes. Kurama deliberately made his steps louder as he approached, and as the two boys turned warily to face him, he offered a gentle, harmless smile:

“Excuse me, the Miss Yuuko you mentioned just now—is she the Dimensional Witch, Yuuko Ichihara?”

—The one who might be able to send him home.

Author’s note: ~(≧▽≦)/~ Ta-da! A new story begins! How could I not start a new project on such a joyful day as June 1st? Big face roll, selling cuteness, begging for favorites and comments ●▽●

This new pit is the journey through various anime worlds of the stunningly beautiful (this must be emphasized!) demon fox Kurama from “Yu Yu Hakusho.” Though I think it should count as quick transmigration, my friend teased me, “Your chatterbox tendencies make quick transmigration torture!” (Friend is so dramatic, sob sob), so I won’t stress the genre, dear readers, please judge as you wish… [covers face]

And now, the routine first chapter column address drop. This adorable, explodingly cute sign was lovingly crafted by my dear friend, so please don’t hold back, poke it hard—

Next, as is my growing habit with crossover stories, today’s attached image is the protagonist of this story, the peerlessly charming demon fox Kurama—

It’s a screenshot from the anime; for its era, I find it already beautiful and captivating… [holds face]

Finally, here’s a preview for the next chapter: The Price to Be Paid. Who are the two boys Kurama meets? Is the Yuuko they mentioned the one Kurama hopes for? And what price must Kurama pay to find his way home? Stay tuned for the next chapter, The Price to Be Paid!

ps, Miss Yuuko, I love you, please come into my bowl! [Confession party, please restrain yourself!]
