To be serious, when Li Lekang went to buy a car, he also picked up a bunch of flashy things, following the principle of no limits on impulse spending. Yet, in the end, he didn’t actually spend that much. Out of the million-windfall, there were still two hundred thousand left. He bought not only for himself but also added plenty of things for the girls. Sandra, who was out shopping with him, was loaded with gains—needless to say—while Daisy finally got her coveted pair of new CL red-soled shoes and the LV bag that women the world over never tire of.

Daisy looked about ready to lose herself in this sea of gifts; she hugged one thing and clutched another, all the while shrieking at him, “How did you know I like these? You’re really a god!”

Li Lekang burst out laughing. “It wasn’t me, Sandra helped pick them out for you. I honestly don’t get women’s tastes.”

Daisy was deeply moved. “Sorry for calling you a bitch before—you really are my good friend. I really love you, mwah!”

Sandra gave her a kiss on the cheek, then one on the lips, making it all a bit much. “Ugh... Just call me a bitch again, will you? I really can’t handle this fawning, sycophantic version of you!”

“What did you say, bitch? Don’t push your luck!” Daisy retorted, hands on her hips. The two locked eyes, but couldn’t hold it for more than two seconds before bursting out laughing.

Li Lekang knew this was how they normally were.

Of course, with everyone having gifts, how could the dog be left out?

Li Lekang bought Mike a huge stash of luxury dog food. He also ordered a good supply of steaks from the supermarket—while others might use them for dinner, he was feeding them to his dog, just because he could.

Then he brought out a package that had already arrived the day before. From the packaging, you could tell it was an express delivery from China. After a long journey and many checkpoints, it finally reached Los Angeles, USA.

Right in front of Mike’s doghouse, Li Lekang opened the package and took out a box. Dog Mike immediately stuck his nose in for a frantic sniff, pawing at it as if he’d already sensed something good inside.

“Hold on, hold on!” Li Lekang pulled the dog’s paws away, then opened the box. Inside was a pair of dazzling, gleaming steel-wire sandals—handcrafted, every detail meticulously carved.

They were the masterpiece of a craftsman from across the ocean!

Handmade steel-wire sandals!

It wasn’t easy for an ordinary person to get their hands on such a pair, but Li Lekang, after all, was a wealthy and well-known fan from afar. After he paid far more than enough, the sandals were finally sent over!

Under Mike’s gaze, Li Lekang kicked off his own recently bought but already chewed-up slippers, slipped on the steel-wire sandals, took a few steps to test the fit, then even jogged a couple of laps around the yard.

At last, thoroughly satisfied, he took off the sandals right in front of Mike, held them to the dog’s nose, and said, “Buddy, these are my new slippers—better make sure you recognize them next time!”

Dog Mike, eyes bright and shining: “...”

“Go on, bite them! Why aren’t you biting, dog? Come on, dog!”

The two girlfriends watching from the side: “...”

They couldn’t help but feel that, sooner or later, either this man or the dog was bound to go mad!

...

But, all jokes aside, Li Lekang really was good to Mike.

Otherwise, would he have gone to such lengths to order a pair of steel-wire sandals from across the ocean for him? My newly bought slippers lose a chunk every few days—isn’t that enough trouble for me?

Just imagine: one morning, you wake up groggy and want to use the bathroom, slip into your slippers, and after just a few steps, nearly trip over because half the shoe’s been chewed off. How is that easy to bear?

If it weren’t for the fact that, when he drew his card, Juanling had sworn that this guy was a Cerberus pup, an epic hound that could breathe blue fire, Li Lekang would have seriously suspected they sent him the wrong package—maybe he got the demolition crew leader instead!

For now, Mike obediently accepted his training, but Li Lekang knew he would—no, he must dare to do it again next time!

To prevent the house from being wrecked, there was nothing for it but to take him out for a walk every day.

But as Mike grew bigger, his energy became more and more abundant. Where a half-hour jog used to suffice, now you had to speed up, even sprint!

Fortunately, living up in the hills meant lots of open space. Behind the house was a small park, popular with people out for hikes or walking their dogs. You’d often run into rich wives and young matrons from wealthy households; chat a bit now and then, and it was actually pretty pleasant.

Residents in the rich neighborhoods tended to be friendly and chatty—after all, money solves most worries, leaving them open-hearted and relaxed. They’d greet anyone, ask about the weather and health.

That day, Li Lekang was chatting under a tree with a young matron from nearby, sharing stories of his travels through China. Even though this body had never been, in his past life he’d been a well-off middle-class guy who traveled all over during holidays.

Talking about foreign lands came naturally, and it was a good chance to broaden the American girl’s horizons—showing her that the world couldn’t be seen through outdated eyes.

A conversation with someone of a similar outlook was always enjoyable; maybe, when there was time, they’d set up a little rendezvous... After all, who would idle away their day, a man and a woman laughing and chatting for so long for nothing?

While he was in the middle of this lively conversation, trouble was brewing for Mike on the other side.

As a free-roaming dog, it was inevitable he’d encounter other dogs nearby. And just like in TV dramas about schoolyard bullying—a husky with such a different air could hardly blend in with the average mutts!

Mike had his own innate pride, a grave and serious gaze that showed his disdain for these ordinary dogs, whether black or white, short or tall.

Look at these dogs, their twisted fur is hilarious! That one even sniffed its own poop just now! Ridiculous—dogs will be dogs!

Why are they all baring their teeth at me?

Mike couldn’t figure it out, but he could sense the hostility.

Hostility from the Doberman, the bully, the Labrador, and the Chihuahua.

They were the local gang—every bush and tree root bore their scent marks. Naturally, a sudden intruder like the husky was met with hostility.

More self-aware huskies had learned to lower their heads and submit, or play dumb and muddle through. But Mike’s dignity wouldn’t allow anyone but his master to pat his head!

The tall, imposing Doberman placed his paw squarely on Mike’s head.

In that moment, Mike felt humiliated. He was furious.

How dare you, mere mutts!

He raised his head and opened his jaws—a true abyssal maw, his jaws unhinging like a snake’s, fangs flashing cold, a force like a hurricane swirling around him, as if he could swallow everything in his path!

The gang of dogs froze in terror, bodies pressed flat, claws digging desperately into the ground, doing everything they could not to be sucked in—a fate worse than death!

But their bodies refused to obey, inching forward bit by bit!

Just then, Juanling’s voice reminded Li Lekang: “Your pet Hellhound is awakening and using its skill. Please go check on it!”

“Sorry!” Li Lekang cut off his conversation with the matrons, stood up, scanned the surroundings, and shouted, “Mike!”

“Come back!”

“Right now!”

Just those few shouts saved the gang of dogs from the brink of that gaping maw.

A little closer, and they would have been lost forever.

Fortunately, Mike heard the call and turned to run back.

He left the gang of dogs trembling on the ground. On closer look, every one of them had wet themselves in fright!

Mike let out a happy bark, then bounded out of the thick grass, ran cheerfully up to Li Lekang, and sat obediently, tongue lolling, eager to please.

The people around, seeing such a clever husky, couldn’t help but praise him: “He’s so smart! You really know how to train dogs!”

“I can train any dog!” Li Lekang declared, pride shining in his voice. “Come here, Mike! Let’s see what you’ve learned!”
