Chapter Seventy-Six: Evolution Island (Part Two)
Luo Hanya struggled desperately, unexpectedly crashing into a whirlpool. The hidden currents surged, a powerful force dragging him in a single direction. Amidst the roaring waves and the thunderous crash against the rocky shore, he summoned his demonic transformation with the last vestiges of his strength, hauling himself out of the vortex. Battling fiercely, he beat his skeletal wings and let out a thunderous cry, breaking free from the seawater.
Panting, he gazed upon the jagged cliffs before him. “Is that an Evolution Island?” Luo Hanya looked at the land so close at hand, yet felt a strange reluctance to set foot upon it, as if a strong evil force emanated from the island—or perhaps he had simply been submerged in the seawater too long, for he shivered uncontrollably.
Yet clearly, there was nowhere else to go; his own spiritual power was insufficient to sustain the demonic form for long. Forcing himself to calm down, he beat his wings and landed upon a flat patch atop the cliffs.
Surveying his surroundings, it appeared to be a tropical jungle—the cliffs stretched out, surrounded by dense tropical plants, and below lay a tall, lush forest. Luo Hanya had chosen well, for from here he could overlook much of the jungle. He looked up and discovered there was no sun, yet the island was as bright as day, though it had been deep night aboard the ship.
Luo Hanya grew wary; he sensed the island was not ordinary. Before he could rest, the system issued the main quest.
Main Quest Activated: Dominate Evolution Island, eradicate all your rivals.
The death game officially begins. Current players: 4
Seeing this number, Luo Hanya was puzzled—it was supposed to be a five-person battle mode, so why were only four left? Reflecting on his journey, he suddenly understood: entering the island was the first threshold; clearly, the unlucky soul had died on the cliffs before even stepping onto the island.
Script Special Ability Acquired:
Name: Devour
Type: Special Ability
Effect: Use on the corpse of a creature you have slain. There is a chance to acquire the abilities of the devoured creature and, depending on its strength, enhance your own power.
Note: Survival of the fittest!
Name: Evolution
Type: Special Ability
Effect: After devouring enough creatures, you will undergo an evolution based on the types devoured. The highest tier is Level Ten.
Note: Nature selects the strong!
You are currently a Level Two creature; accelerate your evolution!
Luo Hanya pondered for a moment, grasping the method to win this script. If you are powerful, seek out your rivals on this vast island and eliminate them quickly. If you are weak, you may hide and focus on evolving, striving to become a Level Ten creature to crush all opposition. He licked his lips, recalling what Black Crow had said upon first entering the script: “Demons have ten tiers; a Level Eight great demon is a dominant force in the Frozen Hell. I wonder if the ten tiers here are connected to those of demons.”
“Perhaps a Level Ten creature refers to a being akin to a Level Ten demon?” Luo Hanya raised an eyebrow, murmuring, “But Black Crow said that even a Level One demon could wreak havoc in the human world, and I am already a Level Two creature. After the game’s enhancements, my physical condition is roughly on par with those martial arts masters.” He paused. “So, while creature tiers relate to combat power, they aren’t strictly proportional. Some powerful Level One creatures might defeat Level Three or even Level Four beings.”
Suddenly, Luo Hanya came to a realization. He clapped his hands and laughed, “So that’s it! We don’t have to hunt weaker high-tier beings; we can target lower-tier but stronger creatures, evolving into a being with lower tier but higher dimension. The description of the Evolution ability specifies evolution based on the types devoured—I mustn’t let myself evolve into something useless.”
Luo Hanya advanced cautiously through the tropical jungle, vigilant of his surroundings. At the moment, his appearance was somewhat bizarre—a blue-and-white mask topped with a large red ball. If he walked down the street like this, parents would surely pull their children away and warn them, “Never imitate such a weirdo.”
A wolf’s howl suddenly echoed. Luo Hanya instinctively curled up, hiding himself in the thick foliage.
Within seconds, a nearly naked, robust humanoid arrived riding a giant red wolf. Luo Hanya, concealed in the shadows, watched in astonishment. Green skin, two fierce tusks protruding from its mouth, muscles bulging all over, and a necklace of human bones around its neck lent it a savage air.
Name: Hunter
Ability: Trap
Description: A top-tier Level Three creature, a nightmare for lower-tier beings.
While Luo Hanya was observing the Hunter, the giant wolf sniffed the ground and suddenly turned toward his hiding place, letting out a harsh roar. The Hunter excitedly thumped his chest, pulled a massive cleaver from nowhere, squeezed the wolf’s sides, and charged forward, howling furiously.
The moment the wolf’s gaze turned, Luo Hanya realized he’d been exposed. Yet he did not retreat; instead, he wanted to test the Hunter’s strength. He took out the Turtle School shell and withdrew entirely inside, his movements so practiced that the Hunter and wolf were momentarily stunned. Soon after, the Hunter laughed contemptuously, clearly unimpressed by his prey. He urged the wolf back several dozen meters, then charged forward in a whirlwind of malice.
Luo Hanya had no idea what was happening outside. Curled tightly inside the shell, he waited quietly, his mind made up: if the shell shattered, he would flee; if it held, he would counterattack.
With a resounding crack, the Hunter’s mighty blow struck the shell. The cleaver screeched against its surface, and both the shell and Luo Hanya were sent flying by the force. Only halfway through the flight, the shell splintered into fragments, leaving Luo Hanya spinning elegantly through the air, performing all manner of acrobatic feats.
