Chapter 112: My Name Is Woody, Your Mentor!
Cheng Ren was sent flying, his eyes wide as he stared at the figure before him. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t understand how Zhang Ze had risen again.
Getting back up was one thing—but why was he the one who got thrown?
Thud—
He crashed heavily to the ground.
In truth, Cheng Ren hadn’t suffered any real injury. It was the terror in his heart that mattered most.
Around them, Qian Xiaoming, Fang Ying, and the others fell silent. Each of them stared wide-eyed, none daring to charge at Zhang Ze again.
With a sudden burst, the figure strode forward several paces.
In an instant, Zhang Ze stood before the crowd, his voice cold. “Now do you see how formidable I am?”
As he spoke, Zhang Ze pretended to scrutinize the group, then continued, “I want to ask you all right now... can I, Zhang Ze, handle you?”
Silence.
Who hadn’t seen him get slammed to the ground by Cheng Ren? But how could anyone explain this scene? He was alive and kicking once more!
“I... I admit it,” a faint voice whispered.
Zhang Ze spotted the young man among the crowd. No longer fierce and hostile, the youth hurried over.
Zhang Ze smiled warmly. “I told you, the reason the An Qingwu Bureau chose us wasn’t just because of our martial talent.”
“It’s because we have brains too!”
With that, Zhang Ze quickly guided the youth toward the red section of the Martial Arts Department.
“You’re already at Second Rank at your age. Your 200S vitality may not be the highest, but it meets our department’s standards,” Zhang Ze said seriously. “More importantly, you know how to seize the moment.”
“I, Zhang Ze, welcome you to the Martial Arts Department!”
The youth was bewildered but, looking at the outcome, it seemed favorable. He was now part of the Martial Arts Department. Though he had taken a couple of punches from Zhang Ze in the chaos, he had ultimately achieved his goal.
A broad smile spread across his face.
The crowd stirred as well.
Using the same method, Zhang Ze ushered several other Second Rank contenders into the red zone. In the blink of an eye, over forty figures filled the Martial Arts Department’s red area.
Fang Ying and the others remained in the central zone.
Checking the time, less than five minutes had passed.
“Hey!” Zhang Ze feigned surprise, then chuckled as he called out to Fang Ying and the others, “Why aren’t you guys coming over?”
“We all entered through the martial arts school’s assessment, so technically we share the same background. You have to join our Martial Arts Department!”
“Come on, come on!”
Fang Ying was speechless; Qian Xiaoming shook his head.
Perhaps they knew that Zhang Ze no longer had much fighting power. If they landed a few solid punches, he might not hold up.
But they also understood—wasn’t that boring? Just now, he had knocked down thirty or forty students and entangled with them for so long. Cheng Ren was still sprawled on the ground over there.
If they were the ones to defeat Zhang Ze now, who would believe it was their doing?
Forget it.
This guy was definitely going to steal the spotlight.
Though reluctantly, Fang Ying, Qian Xiaoming, and the others smiled and made their way to the Martial Arts Department’s area.
In no time, the central zone was nearly empty—except for Cheng Ren.
“Hey, Cheng Ren, brother,” Zhang Ze called out, laughing with the others in the red area.
No response.
Raising his voice, Zhang Ze asked, “Should I come help you over?”
Still no reply.
Cheng Ren lowered his head and quietly walked into the Martial Arts Department’s section.
“Sigh.”
“Look at you.”
“You just got beaten up by me, that’s all.”
“Why are you so embarrassed about it?”
Zhang Ze, shameless as ever, didn’t care what Cheng Ren was feeling. He slung an arm around his shoulder and teased him.
“Heh.”
“I resign myself to you!”
The voice was soft but clear enough for Qian Xiaoming, Leng Bingbing, and the others nearby to hear.
Hearing this, Cheng Ren slowly raised his head. “It’s not your strength I respect, Zhang Ze—it's your two layers of shamelessness!”
“Hahaha!”
Zhang Ze laughed heartily.
“You only noticed two layers?”
“Then you really don’t know me!”
---
The selection for the Student Work Department concluded.
Though Zhang Ze had caused a commotion on the training ground, making this year’s student choices quite different from previous years, the instructors had no major objections to the final outcome.
After all, they had some understanding of the new students’ abilities.
Zhang Ze had not forcibly pulled those at First Rank or below into the Martial Arts Department. Surely, he wouldn’t dare do that!
His bold claims on the training ground about entering the Martial Arts Department were nothing more than stirring up resentment.
In the end, his presence didn’t cause any significant deviations.
This was the reason most instructors tacitly approved.
---
Inside the observation room, Xue Zhenshan wore a broad smile.
“Looks like it was the right decision to oversee this year’s new student intake! These new faces are full of energy.”
He then turned to Zhao Jinghong, his tone serious.
“Some students will need proper guidance from us instructors, but I believe they won’t disappoint in the future.”
“Heh,” Zhao Jinghong chuckled knowingly at Vice Director Xue’s hint.
“I understand.”
Xue Zhenshan waved to the instructors.
“Head to the central training ground and finalize your students today!”
“Yes, sir!”
---
At the central training ground, small groups of students chatted, discussing which instructors they favored.
Zhang Ze, however, was still lost in daydreams.
Had Minister Zhao and the Martial Arts Department instructors witnessed his stunning performance earlier?
Would instructors Qin Feng and Sun Qiang seek him out?
Instructor Zhou Yun Yun was appealing but, being female, wasn’t quite convenient.
Perhaps after witnessing his formidable strength, Instructor Xie Xun would forget their past grievances.
Or maybe Minister Zhao would take a liking to him and accept him as a personal disciple?
As these thoughts raced in his mind, Zhang Ze was suddenly snapped back by a chilly voice.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I think you’re drooling!”
Leng Bingbing smiled, her dimples round and adorable.
Zhang Ze, oblivious to her teasing, quickly wiped the corner of his mouth with his sleeve. “What else could I be thinking about?”
“About which instructor to choose, right?”
Leng Bingbing nodded thoughtfully, then asked with a playful smile, “Have you decided yet?”
“Uh... not yet!”
“Why?”
She clearly had an idea already and, hearing his question, answered softly, “It depends on whether Instructor Zhou Yun Yun wants to take me. If not, I’ll most likely follow Instructor Shui Ruoli.”
Zhang Ze knew well who Shui Ruoli was. Among the female instructors in the Martial Arts Department, aside from the Sixth Rank Zhou Yun Yun, Shui Ruoli was the only other, and she was Fifth Rank—a respectable level within the department.
Zhang Ze nodded slightly, still wondering if Minister Zhao would take him as a personal disciple.
---
“Your name is Zhang Ze?”
A sudden woman’s voice startled Zhang Ze.
“Yes, it is.”
Without hesitation, Zhang Ze nodded.
What he did not expect was the woman’s abruptness.
“I’m Woodie, and from now on, I’m your instructor!”
“Ah?”
