Chapter 120: Is It Really That Simple?
Zhang Ze watched as the man burst into tears again, leaving him utterly speechless. He raised his hand and patted Tian Guan’s head, scolding, “What’s there to cry about? Get Wang Tianguang out for us, and I swear I won’t kill you!”
“Really?” Tian Guan asked hopefully.
“Is there any doubt?” Zhang Ze replied.
With just a few words, Zhang Ze and Tian Guan had established their “partnership.”
Zhang Yue looked on with some concern, but Zhang Ze was unfazed. He comforted her, “I’ve dealt with this kind of thing before. It’s just a cultist—don’t worry!”
Though his words were casual, Zhang Ze still asked Tian Guan quietly, “What cultivation level does Wang Tianguang have?”
“Third rank,” came the reply.
“Oh, that’s not too bad,” Zhang Ze said, forcing a reassuring tone.
Though he spoke lightly, Zhang Ze knew all too well that a third-rank warrior like himself was still relatively weak. He had broken through to the third rank only a little over two months ago, with little time to truly hone his martial skills. This lack of experience inevitably left gaps in his combat technique.
But dealing with a third-rank cultist was not without options. After all, Huang Ming, a second-rank warrior, had already fallen to Zhang Ze when he was just first rank.
Following Zhang Ze’s instructions, Zhang Yue drove them to a small tavern in the city. Once they got out, Zhang Yue still seemed puzzled. “Why bring him here?”
Zhang Ze didn’t answer directly. Instead, he said, “You watch over him. I’ll go prepare something.”
Zhang Yue frowned at his secretive behavior, but seeing the excitement in Zhang Ze’s eyes inexplicably made her trust him. Meanwhile, she turned her attention fully to Tian Guan.
Tian Guan sniffled twice and said bitterly, “There’s no need to keep such a close watch on me. I understand my situation, and I’m not going anywhere.”
“Besides,” he added, “I’m counting on you two to save my life. If I run now, being hunted by others later, I won’t even get a chance to speak.”
Zhang Yue sneered silently but said nothing.
About ten minutes later, Zhang Ze finally returned to the car.
“I just checked the Martial Bureau’s task hall,” Zhang Yue said seriously. “There really is a third-rank bounty on Wang Tianguang.”
Zhang Ze’s eyes lit up instantly. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s accept it right away!”
“Not bad luck at all,” he mused. “Two second-rank tasks completed, and now a third-rank one right around the corner, plus a batch of mid-grade equipment!”
As he thought of this, Zhang Ze’s mind wandered into daydreams.
Hearing this, Zhang Yue’s eyes widened. “You want that batch of mid-grade equipment too?”
Then she shot a warning, “If the Weapon Company finds out about this, they’ll definitely come after you for it.”
“Why?” Zhang Ze snapped.
They dropped the subject of the equipment after that.
Instead, Zhang Ze pulled Tian Guan aside, whispering instructions. Moments later, they returned, and Zhang Yue watched Zhang Ze suspiciously.
But Zhang Ze said nothing, simply patting Tian Guan on the shoulder with a smile. “You go in first and wait.”
“You want him to go in alone?” Zhang Yue objected. If Tian Guan ran off, all their efforts would be wasted.
Zhang Ze paid no mind. He took Zhang Yue to the other side of the tavern, where the two of them kept a close watch on Tian Guan.
Zhang Yue scolded, “Have you thought about what happens if he runs?”
“Don’t worry, he won’t,” Zhang Ze interrupted confidently.
Seeing his certainty, Zhang Yue dropped her doubts for the moment and asked, “How do you plan to handle Wang Tianguang? He’s a third-rank warrior!”
Zhang Ze furrowed his brows and retorted, “Am I not a third-rank warrior myself?”
He knew well that a direct confrontation with Wang Tianguang could easily end in defeat. Still, he felt a sting hearing Zhang Yue’s doubt.
Feigning mystery, Zhang Ze said, “Just wait and see. Maybe you’ll end up taking down Wang Tianguang yourself!”
Zhang Yue, sensing his confidence, didn’t press further.
Soon, a middle-aged man with a crew cut appeared beside Tian Guan. From the photo provided by the Martial Bureau’s task hall, Zhang Ze and Zhang Yue quickly identified him as Wang Tianguang.
“When do we make our move?” Zhang Yue asked anxiously as Wang Tianguang and Tian Guan began chatting.
Zhang Ze chuckled softly and told her to be patient. “Watch the drink the waiter brought Wang Tianguang. Once he drinks that, we strike.”
Zhang Yue understood his plan immediately. Though the method was somewhat underhanded, dealing with a cultist justified it in her eyes.
“You went to prepare that just now?” she asked quietly.
“Did you think otherwise?” Zhang Ze kept his gaze fixed on the glass in front of Wang Tianguang.
Knowing the plan, Zhang Yue’s nerves tightened. Could Zhang Ze be sure Tian Guan would make Wang Tianguang drink it? Doubt crept in, and time seemed to slow as they stared, waiting...
“He drank it!” Zhang Ze whispered excitedly to Zhang Yue.
Their eyes locked on Tian Guan and Wang Tianguang by the bar, ready to act at any moment.
After about two or three minutes, Wang Tianguang loosened his collar, and Zhang Ze wasted no time. He strode straight toward them.
Zhang Yue gripped her long knife tightly behind her back.
“Wang Tianguang!” Zhang Ze called out suddenly, closing the distance to less than three meters.
In truth, Zhang Ze had already seen through the system that Wang Tianguang’s cell strength was over seven hundred — unmistakably a third-rank warrior.
Startled by the shout, Wang Tianguang instinctively turned, only to see Zhang Ze and the others approaching. He hadn’t even fully processed it before Tian Guan sprang into action.
Tian Guan burst forth suddenly, locking his arms tightly around Wang Tianguang.
Wang Tianguang cursed, “You bastard, Tian Guan! You betrayed me!”
Tian Guan sneered coldly, “I only agreed to join your damn cult out of fear back then. Now I’m about to die! The only way I live is by capturing you!”
Their exchange was cut short as Zhang Ze and Zhang Yue closed in.
It wasn’t exactly effortless, but the way they captured a third-rank warrior like Wang Tianguang felt almost too easy to Zhang Yue’s mind.
