To curse me is already a capital offense.
Li Qingxin stormed out of the infirmary. She had not gone far when she saw a group of people advancing toward it with an intimidating air.
She frowned slightly.
“Strange. Isn’t that Section Chief Li from the Jiangnan Education Bureau? What is he doing here?”
“And Director Qin’s wife?”
“Isn’t that Station Chief Wang from the Jiangnan University Town Police Station? Why are they all here?”
Puzzled, Li Qingxin stopped and took several steps back.
The group marched straight into the infirmary. The woman leading them lifted her leg and kicked the door open.
“Who’s Ling Xiao? Get your ass out here!”
“Ling Xiao? What did he do?”
Li Qingxin’s brow furrowed even more deeply as she moved closer.
Inside the infirmary, the atmosphere was terrifyingly tense. Ouyang Yuluo trembled with fear.
Ling Xiao, however, remained completely composed.
Summoning her courage, Ouyang Yuluo cautiously stepped forward and asked, “May I ask who you are?”
The middle-aged woman at the front swung her hand and slapped Ouyang Yuluo across the face, knocking her to the floor.
“Get out of the way! Did I ask you anything?”
The blow left Ouyang Yuluo’s head spinning. She did not even dare breathe too loudly.
Ling Xiao narrowed his eyes and slowly rose to his feet.
“Who gave you the nerve to kick down the infirmary door? And who gave you the nerve to hit one of my people?”
The middle-aged woman glanced at him, narrowing her eyes as two icy rays flashed from them.
“You’re that Ling Xiao? The one who crippled our Old Qin?”
Ling Xiao’s expression remained indifferent.
“So what if I am?”
“I’ll kill you!”
Without another word, Mrs. Qin charged forward and punched him.
The woman was even more ferocious than a man. Unfortunately for her, Ling Xiao was no ordinary person—and he had no intention of going easy on a woman.
Just as her fist was about to strike his face, Ling Xiao casually extended a hand and caught it. Then, without the slightest mercy, he squeezed.
“Ah!”
A sharp crack rang out, followed by a shriek of agony. Mrs. Qin’s face instantly twisted in pain.
“My hand! My hand!”
As she screamed, Ling Xiao impatiently kicked her away.
“You’re too noisy.”
With a heavy thud, Mrs. Qin’s obese body slammed into the floor.
She and Director Qin truly were husband and wife. Both of them had the same piglike build.
“Section Chief Li! Station Chief Wang! My hand—my hand is ruined! Waaaah!”
The ferocious Mrs. Qin of moments ago was now sobbing uncontrollably. Her hand had been twisted into something resembling a chicken claw, all five fingers grotesquely bent together. It was clearly beyond saving.
The people behind her had not expected Ling Xiao to act with such decisiveness.
“You bastard! How dare you openly assault someone! Do you have any regard for the law?”
Ling Xiao cast him a cool glance.
“Let’s not even discuss the law. Insulting me once is already enough to warrant your death.”
“What an arrogant claim!”
Station Chief Wang gave a cold laugh.
“In all my years, I’ve never seen anyone as reckless as you. Raise your hands and get on your knees at once, or I won’t be held responsible for what happens next!”
As he spoke, he pulled a dark object from his pocket.
Ling Xiao’s expression remained indifferent.
“Before you use that thing, I advise you to put it away. Otherwise, you will certainly die.”
“I’d like to see exactly how you plan to kill me!”
Old Wang ignored him completely and raised his right hand.
But at almost the same instant, Ling Xiao moved with lightning speed. He snatched a ballpoint pen from the table and flicked it lightly.
The pen pierced straight through Old Wang’s chest.
“My God!”
Outside the door, Li Qingxin let out a scream before hurriedly covering her mouth.
Old Wang collapsed. Blood spread across the floor tiles.
His eyes were stretched wide in disbelief. Even at the moment of death, he could not understand why Ling Xiao had truly dared to strike.
Mrs. Qin and Section Chief Li both swallowed hard, terror filling their eyes.
At that moment, Mrs. Qin even forgot the pain in her hand. A bone-deep chill seized her heart.
This boy… he… he was utterly lawless!
“You… are you insane? You—you actually killed him?”
Ling Xiao did not bother answering. The air rippled, and Feng Wu’s figure appeared before them.
Her sudden appearance made everyone’s hearts pound wildly once again.
How could ordinary mortals have ever witnessed something like this?
Feng Wu swept a cold gaze over Mrs. Qin and the others.
“You dared attack a first-rank official of the Great Xia Empire. Killing him was already showing him mercy. Otherwise, your entire clan would have been exterminated long ago!”
Seeing the blank, bewildered expressions on their faces, Feng Wu continued coldly, “You don’t understand? Then I’ll give you a term you can understand. A major general of the Dragon Group!”
Mrs. Qin was completely stunned and collapsed onto the floor.
No matter how ignorant she was, she understood the words “major general.”
It was over. Everything was over.
She had never imagined that Ling Xiao possessed such an astonishing background. She had thought he was nothing more than a worthless nobody.
How… how could this be?
Old Qin, you fool! You were about to drag the entire family into eternal ruin!
Outside the window, Li Qingxin was even more shocked. She clamped both hands over her mouth, afraid she might scream.
A major general? He was actually a major general?
This young man she had looked down on was a major general?
Heaven above, what kind of joke was this?
Although she was exceptionally gifted and had become an overseas student at a very young age, she was still only a university lecturer to this day.
But Ling Xiao… How old was he?
He had actually risen to the rank of major general! Was he even human?
Ouyang Yuluo was equally stunned. Her mind had gone completely blank.
Section Chief Li was no better. He had been so frightened that he wet his trousers and staggered to his knees.
“Why… why was I so stupid? Why did I follow that fool here to throw my weight around? I… I’ve been ruined by your Qin family!”
A trace of impatience flashed through Ling Xiao’s eyes.
“Feng Wu, take them away and send them on their way. Don’t let these idiots bother me again.”
“Yes!”
At his command, Feng Wu responded, and Mrs. Qin, Section Chief Li, and Station Chief Wang’s corpse all vanished from the spot.
Clearly, Feng Wu was not the only one concealed near Ling Xiao.
After everyone had left, the infirmary fell silent and empty. Ouyang Yuluo remained utterly bewildered, still looking as though her soul had left her body.
“Dr. Ling… are you a human being or a ghost?”
Ling Xiao shook his head helplessly.
“I’m naturally human. Otherwise, how could I be standing here talking to you?”
“But you…”
Ling Xiao calmly shook his head.
“There are some things you only need to know without dwelling on them. I said I’m a major general, so I’m a major general. But you… can at least be considered a friend of mine. There’s no need for you to involve yourself in everything else.”
