Dawn broke, and the battle had ended. The crowd looked at Wang Xiao, unable to contain their joy.

Wang Xiao glanced around; everyone was a bit disheveled but unharmed.

"City Lord, I want braised pork! Brothers, do you want some?"

"We do!"

"It's been days since we had any. I've really missed it!"

"Haha!"

"Now that you mention it, I'm hungry too."

Wang Xiao laughed heartily, "Brothers, let's go back for braised pork!"

Another round of cheers erupted.

"Long live the City Lord!"

"Long live the City Lord!"

...

Zhu Yan couldn’t help but sigh, "This is what life in another world is really about!"

Fighting side by side, feasting together!

On Infinity City, people stood on both sides to welcome Wang Xiao and his companions.

"Hey, I never thought I'd get this kind of treatment one day."

"Haha, I used to stand on the sidelines, but now I'm receiving honor. Feels great!"

"This feeling is wonderful!"

...

"Report!"

"Speak!"

"Our scouts... all perished!"

Fang Shengli stood up, his gaze sharp. "All of them?"

"Report, only the captain survived."

Fang Shengli breathed a sigh of relief, "How is he now?"

"Still unconscious, and..."

Fang Shengli was a bit annoyed, "And what?"

The man looked fearful, "And he lost one of his arms."

Fang Shengli grabbed his coat and strode out of the study; he would question the captain personally.

The council hall was already crowded, voices rising in heated discussion. When Fang Shengli arrived, the murmurs stopped.

"Speak. What are your thoughts?" Fang Shengli said impassively.

A portly leader declared, "This incident is entirely Fang Kai's fault. He should be stripped of his title!"

Fang Shengli’s expression didn’t change; he merely nodded lightly.

The leader grew more confident, though his face betrayed nothing.

Someone retorted, "Isn’t that unfair? Didn’t you approve this operation?"

This man’s rugged features and exposed muscles spoke of undeniable strength.

"You’re just a brute—what do you know?"

The man replied with a cold smile, "If you’re so capable, why don’t you take charge?"

"Hmph, I’m the strategist here. You’re no match for me."

Fang Shengli spoke calmly, "Enough. I called you here to analyze, not to quarrel."

A man moved to the center and produced a blood-stained videotape.

"This was brought back by Fang Kai."

He began to play the tape.

"Captain, do you think these 'demons' are really that powerful?"

Fang Kai smiled, "Supposedly, ordinary attacks can’t kill them. Only soul attacks can do the job."

The other laughed, "I recall you have a soul attack technique, don't you, Captain?"

Fang Kai hit him playfully, "Don’t you? Most of our squad does—brat!"

"Well, Captain, let’s test the waters."

Fang Kai laughed and scolded, "Test what? Our mission is reconnaissance!"

"Alright, alright, Captain’s always right. Reconnaissance!"

In the darkness, only the crimson moon overhead offered a faint light, casting an eerie glow on the surroundings.

Slowly, the squad approached.

"This matches the reports from other cities."

The "demons" lay prone, motionless, resembling oversized black rats.

Fang Kai watched for a while, deciding to report to Yanhuang City and ask whether they should eliminate the demons.

Lately, several Yanhuang City residents venturing out had been devoured by these creatures.

Now, many in Yanhuang City dared not leave. The demons stayed hidden in the mist during the day, but anyone who approached was dragged in.

Even several fourth-tier fighters had been killed.

After a brief discussion, Fang Kai received authorization from Yanhuang City.

He also asked if he should report to Fang Shengli, but was told it was too late and they didn’t want to disturb the commander’s rest.

So Fang Kai prepared to lead his men to slay the demons.

At this point, the portly leader panicked—he had given the order.

He quickly stood to explain, but Fang Shengli interrupted.

"Let’s finish watching first."

Though Fang Shengli’s voice sounded calm, nobody noticed his tightly clenched fists.

The leader relaxed; as long as he had a chance to speak, he could shift the blame.

Fang Kai drew a military dagger, poised on his toes, swift and nimble.

As he neared a demon, he plunged the blade into its head.

There was no sound; the demon fell dead to the ground.

The blade withdrew, a flash of green light fading quickly.

The others succeeded just as easily, dispatching a dozen demons in less than half a minute.

The group’s faces lit up with joy.

Fang Kai took a deep breath, gestured, and the dozen men gathered together.

"From now on, pair up and watch each other’s backs."

"Yes!"

The team fought in an orderly, efficient manner—truly a military-trained unit.

But as most of the demons were slain, disaster struck.

One fallen demon rose again!

"Damn! It’s a fourth-tier demon!"

The warning barely left his lips before the demon’s arm pierced him.

With the sudden chaos, the rest of the demons awoke.

Now each soldier faced three demons—a deadly predicament.

They even had to confront the fourth-tier demon; before it, they were like lambs to the slaughter.

Only Fang Kai could barely resist.

"Everyone, retreat!"

The squad began to withdraw toward Yanhuang City, but the demons gave no quarter.

Thud!

Another man fell!

Fang Kai roared, plunging his dagger into the demon.

Clang—

The blade bounced off, sparks flying as it struck the demon’s tough hide.

The demon swung its arm with a whistling sound; blood sprayed.

With a scream, Fang Kai’s entire arm was severed.

The footage froze here.

When the Yanhuang City troops arrived, they found only the bloodstained camera.

The ground was covered in blood and scattered limbs.

The demons were nowhere to be found.

On the return journey, they discovered Fang Kai collapsed on the ground.

He was soaked in blood, with a black spike lodged in his chest.

From the broken end, it was clear it had been forcibly severed.
