Chapter Fifty-One: Where the Hell Is This?
"This is the end for us!" Wang Xiao wailed in despair.
He glared at the half-dead raven demon beside him, his anger flaring. So your so-called ultimate move was just an escape after all!
The raven demon was just as bewildered. Where was this place? It suddenly realized—the explosion caused by Wang Xiao had thrown off their teleportation, sending them off course!
The demon looked around, racking its brains to recall the surroundings. "This place..." Its eyes widened. "Damn! This is the Godslayer Pool!"
All around stood nameless demon statues, their lips slightly parted, from which diabolic liquid oozed.
Wang Xiao grabbed the raven demon by the scruff. "Where the hell is this?!"
The raven demon laughed maniacally. "Ha... ha! I may die, but you won't survive either!"
It seemed to have lost its mind, mumbling incoherently.
Wang Xiao frowned. "Seems I won't be getting any answers from this lunatic for now."
He surveyed the area. The whole place was encircled by stones, with a stone ceiling overhead, carved with grotesque and bizarre patterns.
"How the hell do I get out of here?" Wang Xiao knocked here and there—the stone was thick and unyielding.
...
Infinite City.
Ji Weijie and the others had rushed to the spot where Wang Xiao vanished. But they were left with no clues, anxious and at a loss.
How could someone just disappear like that?!
Little Bone, however, showed no sign of distress, which meant Wang Xiao was still alive. That gave Xia Mengsi some relief.
But they still couldn't contact Wang Xiao, leaving his whereabouts a mystery.
In the end, everyone returned to Infinite City.
After tending to the wounded, an emergency meeting was called.
"Everyone, stay calm. The City Lord must be fine!" Xia Mengsi raised her voice as much as she could, for the hall was packed with people.
They were all deeply worried for Wang Xiao's safety.
After spending this time together, they both admired and felt grateful to him. Though Wang Xiao could be a bit of a fool at times, that only made him seem all the more approachable.
Xia Mengsi’s assurance quickly quieted the hall. News that Wang Xiao was safe brought cheers from those waiting outside.
Seeing the crowd settle, Xia Mengsi continued, "But we still don’t know where the City Lord is."
"What should we do then?"
"We must find the City Lord!"
"Where could he have gone?"
...
Sensing the unrest, Ji Weijie hurried out to steady them. "Don't panic! We have to believe in the City Lord!"
"He will surely come back!"
At this, the crowd stirred with excitement.
"He will surely come back!"
"He will surely come back!"
...
"Tsk tsk, this is a sacrificial ground. You think you can just walk out?" the raven demon sneered.
Wang Xiao had tried everything he could think of, but nothing worked. Hearing the demon taunt him, he snapped back to attention and seized it by the throat. "Talk! What is this place?"
The raven demon, shifting from rage to reverence, replied, "This is the sacrificial ground—the Godslayer Pool. Every thousand years, a Demon King Seed is born here. This place exists to slay gods! Countless demons pour their essence into this place, hoping to be part of its creation. I never thought I'd one day have this honor."
Wang Xiao watched the demon, now crazed with fanaticism, utterly confused.
This thing is going to kill you, and you’re actually thrilled about it? Are you insane?
He smacked the demon on the head. "You still haven't told me how to get out!"
The demon laughed. "Leave? Unless a Demon King Seed is born, the Godslayer Pool will never open!"
Wang Xiao’s heart sank. Was he really going to have to wait a thousand years in here?
Seeing his dismay, the raven demon grinned wickedly. "Don't worry. You’ll be freed soon enough."
"See those statues? When all their mouths are open, it will begin!"
Wang Xiao noticed that of the seven statues, only one remained with its mouth closed, yet it looked as if it might open at any moment.
Knowing he was doomed, the raven demon turned its attention to the statues. Only now, in the calm, did it realize they were all Demon King effigies.
No wonder he felt an oppressive force bearing down on him; even a statue alone exuded such terrifying pressure.
He suddenly remembered what his superior, the Sky Tyrant, had said about the Demon King Project. The demons needed more Demon Kings—preparing for future wars. Even the Sky Tyrant had contributed his own essence to the birth of the Demon King Seed.
A shiver ran through the raven demon. This meant the demons would become more formidable than ever. A pity he would not live to see it. Regretful, but worth it!
Wang Xiao was growing increasingly frustrated—there was nothing he could do here, and it was suffocating.
Seeing the raven demon gazing with reverence at the statues, Wang Xiao’s curiosity was piqued. The first statue was of a six-winged angel, its beauty the very definition of perfection.
Gazing at the lifelike statue, Wang Xiao couldn’t help but mutter, "Could this be Lucifer?"
The raven demon’s eyes narrowed. "How dare you speak the Demon King’s name so casually? That’s the King of Pride!"
It only knew him as the King of Pride, not his true name. And even if it did, it would never dare utter it—not unless it had a death wish.
Wang Xiao smirked. "So the other six kings are Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Lust, and Gluttony, right?"
The raven demon’s eyes nearly popped out. "How do you know that?!"
Wang Xiao’s lips twitched. "So it’s true?"
Suddenly, his heart pounded violently, beating faster and faster, until at last he collapsed to the floor. The raven demon watched, its own eyes twitching in shock.
